Setting: The Ruins Characters: The Fab Four
Dawson thinks to himself, while gripping Jen's hand. *A therapist. I can't believe it. Maybe he has more problems then I thought. What kind of friend am I?* "Dawson," Jen hisses. "Are you ok?" He shakes his head.
"I can't believe it. And he didn't say anything to me."
"Maybe he was embarrassed." Dawson nods.
"Pacey, I'm here for you. Don't forget that," Joey said with a lopsided smile.
"I won't ever forget." He leans over and kisses her cheek. She grabs his hand and they walk off staring into each other's eyes. Pacey trips over Dawson's foot. He gasps. "Oh, God! Dawson, you scared me!"
"What are you doing here Dawson?" Joey seems mad.
"Oh Jen and I were, uh, taking a walk. No, wait. We were going out for ice cream, but we got lost." He gives her a clever smile. Pacey laughs. He thinks it's a joke. Joey hits him. He stops laughing.
"Very funny Dawson," Joey says nastily. "C'mon Pacey let's go. I'll call you later Jen, we can do something."
"Sure Joey."
"Bye guys," Pacey says helplessly being dragged away by Joey. Dawson sighs and hangs his head. *I am_such_a loser.*
Setting: Joey's room Characters: Joey and Pacey
"So. Now that we're alone we can really talk," Joey says gently.
"Ok."
"Are you okay Pace? I mean they didn't get mad or anything when you asked?"
"No, they were actually pretty cool with it. I mean I haven't become psychologically unhinged or anything, so they have nothing to be ashamed of. And neither do I. I think?"
"You're right. You have nothing to feel ashamed about. I wish I could afford therapy."
"Well, he's not really a therapist. More of a psychologist. My parents are afraid that I'm like depressed or something and they don't want me to hurt myself or some crap. But I have you. So I'm pretty happy." He gives her a sexy smile. For some reason it makes her want to give him a big hug. She feels touched that she makes him happy.
She gives him the hug and starts to pull away, but he won't let go. "I don't wanna let go, Jo."
"It's ok Pacey. Neither do I."
Setting: Dawson's room
Characters: Dawson and Pacey
"So, Pace. Are you ok?" Dawson asks, sounding uncomfortable.
"Yea I'm fine. I'm not mental or anything and don't worry it's not contagious." He looks irritated.
"I'm sorry Pace. I'm just trying to understand."
"Understand what?" He becomes even more irritated.
"Why you need to see ... someone."
"Someone, Dawson? I need to see SOMEONE? Does that bother you?"
"No, it's just..."
"It's just what? Do I embarrass you Dawson? You think I'm crazy or something? Do you have any idea how much better my life will be? Do you have any idea how hard it is? No, you wouldn't. You're so involved with yourself you don't even notice you're best friend's life is falling apart! You just really don't care!" Pacey gets up and storms out. He feels really hurt.
*I am such an IDIOT!!!* Dawson thinks to himself. *A total moron!*
THAT NIGHT
Setting: Joey's room
Characters: Joey, Jen and Pacey
"Joey?"
"What?" She's playing with some of Jen's makeup.
"Is Pacey ok?" Joey laughs.
"Yea he's fine. He's making his way back to the room with the padded walls." She laughs again. Jen looks serious. "Jen. He's not mental or anything. His parents are just worried he might make himself sick."
"Joey. He already has."
"Yea. But I think it'll be good for him. And his family. They have a lot of issues you know?"
"Yea. Why were you so mad at Dawson?" She gets ready for some big angry explanation.
"I don't know. I felt kind of helpless when I was talking to Pacey and I needed someone to take it out on. And that thing with the ice cream was way outta line!"
"Yea. He can be a real jerk sometimes." Joey nods in agreement. "When's his first appointment?"
"Saturday. Like 3 or something."
"Tell him I wish him luck."
The girls jump at the banging on the door. Joey gets up to answer it. "Oh. Hi Pacey."
"Hey. I need to talk to you." Jen gets up.
"I'll go. You guys probably need to be alone."
"No. You can stay Jen. I need to talk to both of you."
"Ok," the girls say in unison.
"What's wrong Pace?" He sits down on Joey's bed.
"It's Dawson! He's driving me crazy. He acts like I've got leprosy or something. I'll quote, 'Why do you have to see...SOMEONE?'" His impression of Dawson sends the girls into hysterical fits of laughter.
Jen stops for a minute, "SOMEONE? Not SOMEONE!!!!!!!" That makes them laugh even harder.
"He is so stupid sometimes it's funny. What kind of moron is he anyway? Ever heard of moral support?" Joey says with a touch of anger.
"Relax Jo. It just kinda hurt, ya know. He had no idea what was going on. It just dawned on me."
"What did?" Jen asked.
"He never even bothered to ask." Now Pacey looks sad. "Some friend. He's so self-centered he doesn't even realize that there are other humans around him. It really makes me mad." Jen looks angry too.
"It makes us all mad. He's just not a very understanding person. You're lucky you've got us."
Setting: Pacey's room Characters: Pacey, Cathy, and Dawson
Pacey is lying on his bed reading a magazine. A soft knock. A muffled voice, "Pacey, honey? Can I come in?" It's his mother.
"Yea, mom. Doors open." He puts the magazine down as his mom opens the door.
"You okay sweetie?"
"Since when do you call me sweetie? Oh. I know. Since I became mentally unstable, right?" His mother sighs and sits at the foot of the bed.
"I'm trying to be supportive."
"Well, calling me that won't make up for years of neglect. Ok?" He has been considerably irritable lately and can't figure out why. *Must be hormones.*
"Years of neglect, Pacey?"
"You heard me."
"Well, maybe if you shaped up your attitude, I'd be so pleasant more often." Now she's mad.
"Well, if you had ever been pleasant in the first place I would have never developed an 'attitude'." He picks up his magazine and begins to ignore her.
"You will treat me with respect Pacey! I'm your mother."
"Oh please! Save that for the doctor, mom! Some mother!" She gets up and storms out crashing right into Dawson. "Oh great. First I have to deal with her, now you! This day has been such a joy."
"Can I sit down Pacey?"
In a mocking voice, "I think it would be better if you stood." He smirks and goes back to reading.
"You can't just shut everyone out Pacey."
"I'm not shutting everyone out. Just you, my mom, my dad, and my brother. See? Not everyone."
