QUADRANT NEWS

From the Central Quadrant Commander

Hail Warriors of Central Quadrant!

This has been a busy past couple of months for me with learning the job of CO, helping recruit new KAG members, fielding applications, ship building and reconstruction, and attending all kinds of activities. I have been honored to communicate with you and look forward to continued contact! There has been a resurgence of interest in all things Klingon within the Quadrant. Qapla’!

I urge all of you to mend the scars of battle upon your armor, polish your weaponry to a high sheen, and get out there to let the humans know that Warriors in service to the Klingon Empire walk among them!

Pay heed to the contents of this issue, Warriors, for it has much information that will serve you in good stead in the months to come. This is an exciting time for Central Quadrant, wherein we take on a NEW NAME, chosen by YOU, Honorable Warriors!

And we continue to grow and gain strength with two ships coming out of drydock and three new ships being built with a possible fourth and fifth one on the way! Qapla’!

Neglect not the charitable work that we perform among the Terrans. Let your Quadrant know of your glorious battles and noble victories by submitting to me your reports of these worthy deeds: [email protected]

Ship CO’s, remember that each member of your crew is a VALUABLE resource. Share this newsletter with them, that they too may be swift and strong in battle, and well equipped with the knowledge that will secure them VICTORY in their every endeavor!

Remember that your leadership and diplomacy skills, honed over your years of service to the Empire, will serve you in good stead as we continue to grow and receive new applicants through the KAG Robo-App system (see article below).

BE SURE TO VOTE FOR THE NEW QUADRANT NAME! This process has been a long time in the works (over TWO years).

Dark Moon Fleet CO, Captain Kolex sutai-QIHqem wants to know if anyone is taking a computer and printer with them to DragonCon. If so, please contact him at: [email protected]

May Honor guide your words and deeds! May Glory follow close behind!

Qapla’!

Request For Assistance

Hail Warriors! The following letters were sent and received on the NC/SC Subspace List regarding a very important request for assistance. Please read on!

Hi! My name is Debra C. Martin and I am Commanding Officer of the USS Charleston NCC-71813. I hold the rank of Captain. My Klingon name is Zahr Drahk, Daughter of Martok, Captain of the Klingon Ship, The Valkyrie's' Talon. I am also a member of KAG.

I have a problem and I am making an appeal to all ships in the Region 1 NC/SC area. My Assistant Chief Security Officer Joe Harshaw's mother died and was cremated. When I attended the funeral with another crew member, her ashes were in this cardboard box with a typing label on it. It upset me very much, and I asked Joe why her ashes were not in an urn. He started crying and said he could not afford one.

I went to the Funeral Director/Owner of the Summerville Cemetery and asked what an urn would cost -- he said about $150.00. I told him that I would take care of the bill -- that is me and my Star Trek people -- we would pass the hat and pay for this. The funeral director came back with a beautiful blue marble box to put Mrs. Maude Harshaw's ashes in. The funeral director said it was odd that he would have a blue one, because normally all he carried was white. Joe started to cry and said blue was his mother's favorite color.

What I am asking, is if a few of you would make a small donation to help pay for the urn. So far, I have collected $20.00 from a few of the crew members, and have posted this request for help. If any of you care to make a small donation make the check out to the USS Charleston NCC-71813 and put on the lower right hand part of the check Joe Harshaw or Urn.

The mailing address is as follows:

The USS Charleston NCC-71813

Post Office Box 60624

North Charleston, South Carolina 29418-0674

[email protected]

I would be most appreciative if any of you could help us. If you cannot, then a prayer would be just as good.

Thank you for letting me take up this bandwidth.

Sincerely,

Captain Deb

USS Charleston NCC-71813

THE ABOVE REQUEST NEEDED TO BE ANSWERED!!!!

Hail Zahr Drahk, Honorable Daughter of Martok, CO of the Klingon Ship, The Valkyrie's Talon!

Forgive the lateness of my communication. Battles and plans for future battles delayed my response. I have received your transmission and have a question. May I relay this appeal to the Klingons of Central Quadrant via our impending Quadrant newsletter?

Thank you for your missive alerting us to the need of a fellow Fan. We all need to support each other through good times and bad. My own Terran mother has been dead for 19 years. Time eases the pain, but I never forget her and always miss her.

Please have Captain Debra C. Martin of the USS Charleston tell Assistant Chief Security Officer Joe Harshaw that the Central Quadrant Klingons (includes Alien Mercenaries in Service to the Empire) are saddened by the loss of his mother, Mrs. Maude Harshaw, and that our thoughts are with him.

If there is anything further that Central Quadrant can do, contact me directly at [email protected]

Glory and Honor to the memory of Mrs. Maude Harshaw!

Lt. Cmdr. Keela sutai-Septaric

WARRIORS: Whatever assistance in this matter you can manage, be it monetary donation or prayers, will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

IKV MhaLeS’s Star

IKV Firestorm Renamed In Honor of Fallen CO

When Commanding Officer, Lt.. MhaLeS’s vestai-DevnoH (mka Buddy DeWitt) passed away in 1998, it left a big hole in the heart of the crew of the IKV Firestorm.

Still grieving over the loss of his friend and commanding officer, then Lt. Qamtin vestai Dok’Marr’ assumed leadership of the vessel. But neither he nor any of the crew have been the same since Buddy’s passing.

Buddy was so well thought of by KAG that he received the unprecedented (at least for Central Quadrant) honor of being promoted posthumously by Admiral Kroesh zantai-Septaric at StellarCon to Lt. Cmdr. vestai. His friend, Lt. Qamtin vestai-Dok’Marr’ led the death howl for MhaLeS’s.

Recently, there has been some additional healing. After discussing the matter with his crew, Lt. Cmdr. Qamtin vestai-Dok’Marr’ has asked and received permission to change the name of his ship to the IKV MhaLeS’s Star in honor of birth name of the Warrior who became known as MhaLeS’s of House DevnoH.

In honor of their fallen Warrior, he has also asked that the name of the IKV Firestorm (one word) not be used again.

Let us raise a cup of bloodwine to both Lt. Cmdr. MhaLeS’s vestai-DevnoH and the IKV Firestorm that he now commands in Sto’Vo’Kor!

Let us also raise our cup of bloodwine to the new IKV MhaLeS’s Star! May she be glorious and victorious in her every endeavor!

BLOOD WAR!!!!!!

The following missive was posted to the Command Informer list serve and is reprinted with permission:

Attention all Hands!

Time is running short on the Blood Drive challenge! As my friend Admiral KwISt (Twisty) would say, "How goes the war?" Well, how goes it?

The 501st. Imperial Stormtroopers "Vader's Fist" mean business when they challenged the Klingon Empire! Are we going to lay down and let them win this for their Emperor? HELL NO! Let it be proclaimed throughout the galaxy that Emperor Kahless is the one and only true Emperor!!!

If you have already collected donation sheets, be sure to submit them as SOON as possible to General Qor'toq zantai-DevnoH (Marine Commandant of KAG). Write to him for instructions at: [email protected].

Remember that ALL of Klindom has been challenged! For the honor of our clubs and our Emperor, go out there and FIGHT! Announce this war on other email lists! WE ARE KLINGONS! 'Nuff Said!

May Honor and Glory always walk with Us!

Captain Khatal sutai-H'aaWK

Commander, Cold Terror Fleet

WARRIORS: To date, the IKV Executioner, Flagship of the Quadrant, has donated 43 units of blood from among the crew. Nine are whole blood units, 34 are units gathered from plasmapheresis. I challenge all ships to do the same! Time is of the essence! We must spill our blood for Kahless NOW in a final hour push for donations! We only have two months to GO!!!! Lt. Cmdr. Keela sutai-Septaric, CO, IKV Executioner.

Open Quadrant Offices

Hail Commanding Officers!

There are several open positions on my staff that I seek to have filled. They are:

IXL (Imperial Xeno Legion) Quadrant Ambassador

(edited by L. Captain Mirodon Ris):

The position is open to any Alien in service to the Empire. The IXL Quadrant Liaison answers directly to the Dark Moon Fleet IXL Liaison, Legionnaire Captain Mirodon Ris ([email protected]), and laterally to the Quadrant Commander. The duties thereof would include helping Alien recruits to be assigned to an appropriate ship, helping the Quadrant build IXL ships, assisting IXL Department Heads on non-IXL ships serve their Alien crew mates, and disseminating information from DMF Fleet IXL Liaison to help Alien Warriors serve the Empire to the best of their abilities.

Marine Quadrant Fencer (edited by Col. Kasak sutai-Septaric):

This position is open to any Marine in Central Quadrant. The Marine Quadrant Fencer answers directly to the Central Quadrant Commander and DMF Marine Field Marshall, Col. Kasak sutai-Septaric ([email protected]). The duties thereof would include assisting the Quadrant commander, helping Marine recruits to be assigned to an appropriate ship, helping the Quadrant to build Marine ships, assisting Marine Department Heads on non-Marine ships serve their fellow Marines, and disseminating information from the DMF Marine Field Marshal to help Marines serve the Empire to the best of their abilities.

Quadrant Quartermaster (edited by K’Jett of House Qorvazh):

This position is open to anyone in Central Quadrant. The Quadrant QM answers directly to the DMF QM (vacant at this time, so KAG QM, K’Jett of House Qorvazh ([email protected]), would be the next in COC) and laterally to the Quadrant Commander. The duties thereof include providing costuming, armoring and, occasionally, cultural advice to new Warriors (IXL can assist with Aliens) and be able to supply resource information. The QM must also be able to supply battle notches to CO’s who request them. [The logistics will be worked out once the office is filled.]

Force Recon (edited by Captain Khar'Ton):

This position is open to anyone in Central Quadrant. The Force Recon Quadrant Coordinator answers directly to the DMF Force Recon Liaison (vacant at this time, so KAG Force Recon head, Captain Khar'Ton sutai-Koltar ([email protected]) would be next in COC) and laterally to the Quadrant Commander. FORCE RECON is the recruitment, "training/education" and publicity part of KAG. The job of KAG's Force Recon is to welcome new members to the group and get them 'acclimated' to how we do our version of the Klingon Empire. Force Recon has 'publicity' as one of its tasks because that's how you get possible "new" members recruited - Klingons seen in public!! I, Khar'Ton, the Force Recon Commander, am actively advocating there being "Quadrant-level" Force Recon coordinators. These should be KAG warriors who are already noted for their recruiting skills and their abilities in helping new members of the club enjoy themselves.

Contact me at either my e-mail address: [email protected]
                        - OR -
My 'snail-mail' address of : Captain Khar'Ton
                                      P.O. BOX 53695
                                      Cincinnati, OH 45253

E-Corp (provided by Cmdr. Seq’dogh sutai-to’meD-qelt):

This position is open to anyone in Central Quadrant. The duties thereof E-corps does not create another chain of command, it only creates another chain of communication. The e-corps officer for a given unit (i.e. Ship, quadrant, fleet, etc.) answers directly to the commander of that unit. For example, the Ship's Ecorps officer for the IKV Kahless Ro' answers directly to the Commanding officer for the IKV Kahless Ro'. That way the unit commander can assure that the Web site for his/her ship represents the ship in an appropriate manner, and that the information on it us up to date. However, the e-corps officers for each unit are encouraged to communicate with each other for ideas / inspiration / assistance / instruction /Guidance. Communication is needed between the various levels of ecorps officers (i.e. ship, quadrant and fleet) to ensure that the web sites for each level have up to date links for the levels above and below it. For example, a Fleet web site should at the least have links the KAG.org web site, and the web sites for the Quadrants that are a part of the fleet. Quadrants should have links to the web sites for the Ships in the Quadrant, and to the Fleet web site. Ships should have links to the Quadrant Web site (if it exists) as a minimum The current E-corps Division head, Cmdr. seq'dogh sutai to'meD-Qelt ([email protected]), maintains a web site for E-corps at http://www.kagusa.net. Here you can find a list of e-corps volunteers, some klingon graphics, and a list of other resources for the Klingon webmaster.

ELINT (provided by Cmdr. Kordite sutai-Tashighor):

This position is open to anyone in Central Quadrant. ELINT is the gathering of Electronic Intelligence. In KAG, the concept of the ELINT Fleet is an active, on-line community. That is, Klingons interacting on-line. The foundation is for those who can't be Klingon in the "real world", have no ships nearby to join, no local conventions or events and things like that. They would be a part of KAG on a ship that exists on-line. However, there isn't a lot of that. ELINT also exists to support on-line activities. Mailing lists, MUDDs, interactive fiction, on-line gaming, chat rooms and the like. If you are interested in being the Quadrant Liaison for ELINT, please contact Cmdr. Kordite sutai-Tasighor at [email protected]

If anyone is interested in the above Quadrant offices, please let me and the Fleet or KAG contact know. For my information, include your species, military branch, rank and name, Terran name and address, email, website, etc. Also tell me how long you’ve been in KAG, what ship you are attached to, what offices you have held (past and present).

Diplomatic Overtures To Maquis Initiated

The Maquis freedom fighters are still out there! Rumors of their demise were greatly exaggerated! I have been in communication with Admiral Be'Jen zantai-minn'hor, a fellow Klingon, and Fleet Admiral of the Maquis Freedom Alliance. She is also the CO of the M.A.V. Firesword. According to Admiral Be'jen, their organization has been around for 5 1/2 years. The Maquis Freedom Alliance started in Indiana, expanded into WV and OH, and more recently patrol KY, CA, NV, TX, PA, AZ, and LA. Qapla'!

They have an annual convention called Maquis Gras. To access information regarding the October 5-7, 2001 event (which will have special guests Robin Curtis and Gwynyth Walsh), go to www.maquis.com/mfa/gras1.htm

The Maquis Freedom Alliance also has a website which contains a listing of their ships and Listening Posts. The address is: www.maquis.com/mfa

I would like to say nuq'neH to the Maquis and wish them well! Perhaps there will soon be a Maquis ship in our area that would like to go on joint maneuvers with the Klingons! Qapla' to our continued good will and co-existence!

The Birth of the IKV Gre’thor

It is with pride that I introduce one of the three new ships under construction in Central Quadrant! May the IKV Gre’thor ALWAYS be victorious in battle!

Lt. Cmdr. Keela sutai-Septaric, CO, Central Quadrant

Some time ago I realized that I needed something along the lines of Star Trek detox and, knowing that there is no such thing in existence, started looking into fan clubs. Yes, I know, fandom accomplishes just the opposite of detox, but at least I can be among those of like minds who won't look at me and say "You are one of those Trek People aren't you?" I hate that. It would be less shocking to people if I had two heads.

In looking for a suitable fan club, I started with the obvious: Starfleet. I spent some time going over the Starfleet web page and looking for the web pages of the ships in the area. There are links for them on the SI page, but the pages themselves do not exist, so it was hard finding the captain of the Starfleet ship in my area. After almost two weeks, I finally tracked down the CO of the local ship to find out that she lives three blocks from me and I could walk to her house in less than 10 minutes. I thought that all was well with the world. The ship was very close by, no driving in traffic around here, and so forth. Then I found out the bad news. The CO was going to be moving, and the ship’s fate was unknown and it was probably heading for decomissioning. Being the brave sort, I even offered to take over as CO. I didn't hear back from her.

My husband asked me if we had other clubs in the area like we did in Ohio where we had Starfleet, a Vulcan ship and a Klingon ship, all within 20 minutes of us. Another Internet search lead me to KAG. I really had no idea what KAG was so I spent at least a week going over every inch of the web page, checking out links to ships. In all honesty, I was more impressed with KAG than I ever was with Starfleet. The only problem was: there were no KAG ships in either Maryland or DC. I contacted the Central Quadrant Commander of the Dark Moon Fleet, KAG. She advised that I first read the KAG Guidelines, which she sent me, but upon receiving them, discovered that I had already read them completely while spending time at the KAG site. Afterwards, I was given the go ahead to start a ship.

The real irony is, about three weeks after that I was contacted by the Starfleet CO here. She told me that she talked it over with her commanders and that they were not going to turn a ship over to an "inexperienced captain" and they were just going to decomission it. I recently found out that the ship was very inactive and there had been no recruiting drives for several years.

So that is how the IKV Gre'thor came into existence. I know someone is asking why I picked the name Gre'thor. The name is somewhat of a joke. Anyone that has ever been to the DC Metro area and has had to deal with the traffic knows how close to hell it really is around here. Well, that and the natives. These people think that crosswalks are just road decoration and walk out into traffic any time they want. After spending a day in traffic around here and dealing with things like that, not to mention living among politicians, Gre'thor would be a welcome sight. Maybe I am cynical and haven't adjusted to living in the city, having grown up in the country, but anyone around this area that knows anything about Star Trek and Klingon culture gets the joke, so the ship’s name really works!

Due to some personal problems that not even the most skilled Klingon Ship Commander could negotiate thru and keep his hair, the IKV Gre'thor has been slow getting off the ground. The official crew complement so far is 3, with 7 cadets with two pending members.

I am in the process of trying to plan the ship’s first function. I contacted the Domestic Violence Unit of the Sheriff’s Department to see about doing a teddy bear drive for the children that they have to assist. So far, I have heard nothing back although the officer that I spoke with sounded excited about such a project, but it wasn't up for him to decide. Hopefully I will hear something soon or I will have to come up with something else.

The ship’s web page is located at:

DARK MOON FLEET NEWS

Dark Moon Fleet Officers Needed

With the exception of Web-Weaver (E-Corps), IXL and Marine categories (which are already filled) Captain Kolex sutai-QIHqem, Dark Moon Fleet Commander, needs capable and seasoned Warriors on his Fleet Staff in the areas of Quartermaster, Force Recon, and ELINT. Requirements for the position are similar to the Quadrant article you read above, with a Fleet level responsibility and commitment.

Send your letter of intent and all pertinent information to Captain Kolex at [email protected] and copy the appropriate KAG contact listed below:

Standardization of Ships Proposed

Captain Kolex sutai-QIHqem, Dark Moon Fleet Commander, is considering standardizing the classes of ships in Dark Moon Fleet to: B’rel, K’vort, K’T’Inga, Negh’var and Vor’cha. These ships have been widely seen in the respective Star Trek television series and movies, and are the most recognized.

There are other ships that have come from FASA books, but one problem is that they may be out of date from 100 to 300 years. He’s interested in modernizing. And standardizing the ships also helps keep them "canon."

Captain Kolex is very interested in your opinions regarding this. Some questions he would also like your input on are:

1. Should the Ship CO get to pick the new class?

2. Should the Vor’cha have a minimum crew?

3. Should the Negh’var have a minimum crew?

4. Should the B’rel be reserved for ships that are just starting?

Remember, Ship CO’s, this is JUST an information gathering attempt to see how well standardizing the ship classes would go over in Dark Moon Fleet. Poll your crews and send your responses/opinions to ME and I will apprise him of them. Thank you!

Nov De’ (Alien Data)

The News Column of the IXL in

Dark Moon Fleet and Central Quadrant

Greetings from the Xenobiological Laboratories! I have just a few things to share with you today (being a 412-year-old Trill means I have a lot of things to do and usually not enough time to do it all).

First off, let me familiarize you with myself -- in real life I am Dave Klingman. I live in Charlotte NC, I am a Dentist by profession. My KAG persona, Legionnaire Captain Mirodon Ris, is a 412-year-old Trill symbiont (residing in my eight host, Mirodon) and I am currently serving as the Science Officer and Xenobiologist on the IKV Executioner. I also serve as the Dark Moon Fleet Head of IXL.

I'm working on two web sites for IXL at the moment:

http://www.angelfire.com/nc2/sardis/ixl/main.html

(General IXL site under the direction of Legionnaire Lt. Col. Liesl Dax, Head of IXL)

http://www.angelfire.com/nc2/sardis/ixl/dmf.html

(IXL site for the Dark Moon Fleet)

Both sites currently and in the future will feature Klingon and alien humor, access to a database of all the aliens in the Star Trek series and movies, and some other resources. Check them out. Additionally, I have just penned a treatise on Ferengi and Dopterian neurobiological makeup. If you would like to receive a copy, email me and let me know.

The International Space Station exhibit is open at Discovery Place in Charlotte, NC. More information can be obtained at the Discovery Place web site at http://24.93.68.194/

Not much else to say - feel free to contact me if you have IXL members on board your ships. My email is [email protected]

Lorenssith Family Hailed by Kairos

Greetings Warriors of the Glorious Lorenssith Family

I am Kairos Lorenssith. Years ago Korda, the Lord of the Lorenssith Line, turned the reins of the family over to me. At that time I was in Florida and was very active as a Captain in KLAW. In 1999 my mate, Khalsa, and I moved to Greensboro, NC. We have been trying to establish communications with the local Klingons ever since.

A couple of months ago I was contacted by Lt. Cmdr. Keela sutai-Septaric, CO, Central Quadrant. Now that communications channels have been established, we are seeking all that are of our Honorable Family.

Our Glorious House, at one time not so long ago, was the largest family in all of Star Trek fandom. We are the only family that I know of that transcends all fandom organizational boarders. There are, or were, Lorenssiths in every Klingon group. What makes us different is that there has only been ONE Line Lord for all Lorenssith at any one time! Therefore, we are one family everywhere.

I am requesting that every Lorenssith contact me. Also those of you that have bios, send me a copy. I would like to post them on the Family's website. ( www.moorish-armory.com/LOR ) There is a copy of the Family bio and several of the more prominent Lorenssith. If you need help with your bio, contact me and I'll be more the honored to assist you.

Waking the Dragon: Septarics Pay Heed

For each of us, beneath the armor and flesh beats the pounding heart of a Klingon.  Through the fires of war and the roars of our deeds each one of us seeks glory through honorable battle.  And we would not be Klingon if, after of a long, hard day on these fields of glory and honor, we’d stop and drink hearty of blood wine and sing loud our songs of battle … shout our names for the stars to hear … share glory with our brothers and sisters.

When each one of us joined into a family it was to add another dimension to our Klingon self.  It was to share with others beyond the bridges of rank or division … it was to share a common bond of heritage and companionship.

Too long has the Dragon been sleeping and too long have the brothers or sisters of our line been able to share fully of their glory with all of us.  No more.  The Dragon is awake and seeks to rejoin what once was.

I now ask my brothers and sisters to stand up and shout your names again.  I ask you to contact me by letter or electronic or flesh, so I may gather forth and let each one of us know more about the others.  So we may share our deeds and glory as a family again.

As head of the House Septaric, I also seek to know if each of you holds the symbol of our line …  if each of you wears the Eye of the Dragon.  For if not, I will make sure you receive an Eye to display as proudly as every Septaric has worn theirs since the beginning.

KAG NEWS

KDIC Website Celebrates Anniversary

Stardate: 01.06.06

Greetings,

It is with great pride that we announce the 5th anniversary of the KIDC website! It was on June 7th, 1996 that the site was first launched and only weeks later it was featured in Yahoo Magazine's "Top Ten Star Trek websites", the first of many web awards for its design and extensive content.

We invite all KIDC members, as well as visitors and users to the site to register their comments on this joyous occasion in our Klingon Imperial Registry on the KIDC website http://www.klingon.org

On a related note, June 6th marked the birthday of the eldest member of the KIDC. Senior Diplomatic Advisor, Lord Ki'aanu Kasara, became amazing 80 Terran years young! Considering this is such a significant milestone, we encourage all KIDC members, as well as members of all other Klingon groups and organizations to mark the occasion by sending a congratulatory birthday message to Lord Ki'aanu. Messages can be sent via e-mail to [email protected] , through an electronic greeting card or even a hardcopy card through postal mail. (Please contact us for the mailing address)

Please do not hesitate to write during the next few weeks, even if it is belated greetings, as he greatly appreciates receiving such notes! Also, please mention what group you represent and your geographic location (city/state/country) as this is of great interest to him. (Feel free to pass on this request throughout Klingon fandom.)

Ambassador Lady K'Zin Epetai Kasara

KAG Guidelines

The revised Klingon Assault Group Guidelines are now on-line! I urge each Warrior (Ship CO’s, alert your crew members) to download and read these valuable and informative pages. You may access them at: www.kag.org/handbook

KAG Robo-Application

I recommend for each Ship CO to use the KAG Robo-Application! It saves postage and time! If you are expecting a specific crew person to recruit to your ship, however, it would be good to let me know who they are so that I may forward the application correctly without delay. Otherwise, as my habit when I welcome them to Central Quadrant, I will offer them the choice of the ships in their area or the challenge of founding their own. You may access the application at: www.kag.org/app.htm

Imperial Xeno Legion

The following is an article gleaned from a series of emails in answer to questions about the Imperial Xeno Legion (especially rank questions and COC) submitted by L. Lt. Col. Liesl vestai-Dax, CO of the IX with input from Captain Kolex sutai-QIHqemL, Dark Moon Fleet CO.

The IXL’s main purpose (like KAG's) is to have FUN and to use our imaginations from the sci-fi or fantasy media. (i.e. books, TV shows, movies, pc games, cartoons and the role-playing games. The IXL is open to both those who are current members of KAG and to new members.

If a current member of KAG wishes to become a Legionnaire, and completes a new uniform and make-up of another Alien (not human) other than Klingon, that member enters the Legion at the rank equivalent to that member's rank. (A new member would follow the KAG Guidelines for ranking with the construction of a costume/makeup as prerequisite for commissioned rank. Otherwise, the non-uniformed newcomer is at the rank of Sergeant until a suitable Alien costume/makeup is developed.)

The IXL uses a Marine Ranking System, using an "L" instead of an "M" to denote our ranks. For example, a Lt. Commander vestai (Navy) would transfer at the rank of Legionnaire (IXL term) Major (Marine office).

Notice NO Honorifics are used, as a Legionnaire is not eligible to receive these until they become a citizen of the Empire after three years service to the empire (then they obtain the honorific appropriate to their rank earned at that time). The IXL's Chain-of-Command will follow that of the Naval COC, while still using the Marine ranking terminology with the IXL prefix of Legionnaire or "L.".

The IXL can be represented by a Department on a Klingon vessel or can be a whole ship of Legionnaires. At this time, the IXL has one Fleet Ambassador and a ship's Department Head.

Individual Alien Mercenaries will report to the Department Head for IXL on the Klingon vessel. The Department Head will report to the ship's Commanding Officer and to the Quadrant Ambassador for the IXL. Like the Dark Moon Fleet template, IXL flows along two roads: the road of the Branch (IXL) and the road of the COC). The COC is the final authority as they are the maneuver command. Once the CO of a ship has been reported to, the road flows up the COC to its final report point.

Continuing in the Branch road, then the Quadrant Ambassador for the IXL reports to the Fleet Ambassador for the IXL. The Fleet Ambassador reports to the XO (executive officer) of the IXL, who then reports to CO (commanding officer) of the IXL. The CO of the IXL reports to the Epetai (Thought Admiral) of KAG.

If an individual Alien Mercenary has a problem with the way a ship CO is using him, he/she contacts the Department Head. The Department Head talks to the ship CO; if there is no resolution, the Department Head contacts the Quadrant Ambassador for the IXL. If there is no resolution at that level, the Quadrant Ambassador contacts the Quadrant CO. If there is no resolution at that level, the Quadrant CO contacts the Fleet Ambassador for the IXL. If there is no resolution at that level, the Fleet Ambassador for the IXL contacts the Fleet Commander. Hopefully, the resolution of any problem can be done at a ship level.

This chain of command can be achieved or seen as a goal to strive for, by having fun, and other creative skills and talents that each and every one of us can bring to this organization.

I am planning out a ceremony of induction and recognition for those who are members of the Xeno Legion. Details will follow as to when, where, and how it will be conducted. I will be sending an IXL newsletter called the "The Black Rope" to all the ship CO’s, Quadrant CO’s and Fleet CO’s. Right now I am the main contact for the IXL. I hopefully would like to see deputies or Fleet heads that I can appoint to help keep in contact with everyone that becomes a member of the KAG in the division of the IXL.

There is also a list serve for Alien Mercenaries of all levels in KAG. To subscribe, write to:

[email protected]

If anyone has questions or concerns about the IXL, please don't hesitate to email me and ask the question(s) that you may have and I will try to answer them to the best of my abilities.

Paradoxical Commandments of Leadership

This thought-provoking list of leadership commandments is anonymous. It was forwarded to me by Captain Kerla zantai MaHcha’, Commander of Demon Fleet. Its message applies to all of us in one way or another!

1. People are illogical, unreasonable and self-centered.

Love them anyway.

2. If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.

Do good anyway.

3. If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies.

Succeed anyway.

4. The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.

Do good anyway.

5. Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.

Be honest and frank anyway.

6. The biggest men with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men with the smallest minds.

Think big anyway.

7. People favor underdogs, but follow only top dogs.

Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

8. What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.

Build anyway.

9. People really need help, but attack you if you do help them.

Help them anyway.

9. Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.

Give the world the best you have anyway.

Star Trek News

The Star Trek: Voyager television series finale was viewed by nearly 10 million people according to a source close to the IKV Executioner. Also according to ZENtertainment, the final episode moved the series ratings from 80th place to 45th place for the week of May 21st to 27th! "To the Journey!"

The new Star Trek series "Enterprise" is slated to premiere September 23rd, 2001 on UPN. Qapla’!

Correction: Apparently, T’Pau will not be featured in the new series, as mistakenly stated in last Quadrant’s newsletter; a Subcommander T’Pol will.

According to a top secret data file from Lt. Cmdr. Komat vestai-Septaric regarding his recent mission to earth, Michael Dorn said he has read the script for the next movie, but could not say anything about it, except that we will like it.

GLORIOUS BATTLE

AND RECENT VICTORIES!!!

Valley Hills Mall Comicon (April 6-8, 2001)

It was a little after midday when my private shuttle decloaked over a Terran outpost called Mall of the Valley and Hills in Hickory, NC. I landed and sought out the coordinator of the event. He indicated the locale that the shared KAG/Feddie table was to be set up in. It appeared to be a safe zone for Klingons and a large family-style rest facility was nearby. All was going better than planned. I quickly offloaded the materials needed for the KAG table, including a TVCR with which to play movies and other Klingon-related films. Lt. K’Logg had loaned us his model ships and I set them up. For decoration I used blue banners on the white tablecloth for the Feddie side, represented by the independent Star Trek Club, the USS North Carolina. Red banners festooned the Klingon side, as well as the KAG recruitment poster I made.

Still remaining in Terran guise, I finished setting up the Klingon side and at the arrival of Lt. Cmdr. Robert Bailey of the USS NC, went to change into my KAG t-shirt. We received only a modicum of interest, however; most of the attendees were there for the comic book portion of the event, and even though the Feddie end of the table had to be modified to fit Lt. Cmdr. Bailey’s offerings of comic books for sale to help their club coffers, few gave us a second glance.

The next day, I arrived and unpacked everything from storage under the table. Once again the KAG table soon became up and running, with holo-albums and applications as well as brochures for the upcoming Mars Quest (see article below). As soon as Lt. Cmdr. Bailey arrived I went to armor up. After appearing in my true form, ridges and all, the KAG table did get a little more attention. We had several people stop and talk with us. Two recruits to the IKV Executioner were made that day (one of them a Mall Security Guard, fitting!) Qapla’!

That morning a Terran friend of mine named George Knapp, formerly of Earth’s Army, escorted me around the Mall. It was on this journey that we met Kaltia Knight, shapeshifter. She was immediately recruited to the ship. Qapla’!

Around 2:00 p.m. Legionnaire Lieutenant T’kel of Vulcan appeared in a shimmer of light particles. She manned the KAG table while Captain Eddie Williams and Lt. Cmdr. Robert Bailey and I shuttled to the Catawba Science Center where we beamed in to discuss space with the visitors of the center. We had our holo-images taken and appeared on the front page of the Sunday Hickory Daily Record, much to my surprise. This exposure was to help advertise the Mars Quest exhibit, which is coming to the Science Center in the fall.

We went back to the KAG table and relieved L. Lt. T’kel. Five hours later, tired and exhausted, Lt. Cmdr Bailey and I parted ways to make our way back to our respective home coordinates to sleep in preparation for the final day. It came far too soon in this Klingon’s opinion!

Around noon, I beamed down once again. As soon as my Federation counterpart arrived, I dressed myself in diplomatic red and black and returned. Once again, the main interest of the visitors was comic-related. If I had had the brains of a packled, I would have told the newspaper reporter who interviewed us the previous day that we were at the Mall and to come see us, but noooo!

Still it was very interesting to talk to the people who did stop by. Once and only once, did I scare the soup out of some poor earth Child. The Mall has great acoustics, I learned. Later that day, one of the crew of the USS NC, Lt. Cmdr. Jimmy Tillman, arrived to help spell us at the table. I remained in subspace communication with my mate, Lt. Katkith tai through all three days.

The Klingons made a very good addition to the Comic Book convention. (No, we were NOT the "comic" relief! <grin>) We gained in numbers and made a good impression on the humans. We were able to help generate PR for the Catawba Science Center’s Mars Quest. All in all, despite the grueling hours involved, it was a successful mission.

Starfleet Region 1 Summit (April 28, 2001)

My shuttle dropped out of warp over a pristine Terran city called Greensboro. The coordinates were entered correctly, but I wasn’t where I was supposed to be. There were no other ships in orbit with me, nor was there any homing signal to lock in on. I checked the computer to see if I had read the data incorrectly. Realizing that I might be several kelicams off target, I cruised along at impulse searching for my quarry. Finally a lone signal cut through the rest and I received docking instructions. I proceeded toward the coordinates without further delay.

Having previously assumed my Terran guise, I had no trouble blending with the natives. After exchanging a small amount of latinum, I entered the great Hall. There were many humans there, all hurrying back and forth. I was unsure of my direction when suddenly in front of me appeared a KLINGON in Starfleet uniform! Trying not to appear overeager at seeing a fellow countryman, I quickly engaged him in conversation. He recognized my true identity almost immediately. He told me he was Cmdr. Matt Power, the Terran name he had assumed while attending Starfleet Academy. I found out he is a near kinsman of Lt. Cmdr. K’Targ vestai-DevnoH. That gave us a common point of reference for we both know this Klingon to be honorable!

I explained that I was on a diplomatic mission and that the Starfleet brass had promised a neutral zone in which to operate. He immediately showed me to my secure area. His duties called him away and I followed, for I was intrigued. "Opening Ceremonies" were about to commence. What were the humans going to open, I wondered? Upon hearing that I ran back to my shuttle and unlocked the cargo bay doors to retrieve the Dark Moon Fleet banner. Returning casually, but quickly to the diplomatic zone, I used the banner to mark our presence among the humans. I pinned my Navy insignia to my human costume and moved carefully to where the "Opening Ceremonies" were seconds away from starting. I slipped unnoticed into the meeting room and seated myself.

Piped in by Cmdr. Power, the Federation color guard and highest ranking officers entered. I did what everyone else around me did in order to blend in; I stood up. After they struck their colors and we listened to the United States’ National Anthem, we all sat back down. There were welcoming addresses and roll call (I was surprised at the number of Federation ships in that sector of space. We Klingons will have to be even more diligent in protecting the Empire’s interests!). The ceremony was to open the Summit! Aahh! I soon realized that the meeting was going to last until the noonday meal. I stealthily crept up to Cmdr. Power’s side and asked him if it was permissible to leave. I needed to set up the Klingon diplomatic area. He assured me that leaving was not a breach of meeting protocol, so I quickly exited to begin my preparations.

Retaining my human guise I raised the Dark Moon Fleet banner first. Table setup was next. Starfleet had already supplied a white linen table cloth with matching skirt. After assuring myself that there were no listening devices hidden therein, I placed my bat’leth and d’k tagh down first. A "Do Not Touch" sign sat upon the bat’leth. Sticks of cinnamon gum (a human confection) were laid out (supplemented with chocolate Kisses once Captain Kolvar arrived) because all Klingons know how much Terrans hate gagh-breath!

A Klingon contacts signup sheet was laid out (no applications were out of courtesy to Starfleet). There were three holopicture albums also on display (two from the local ship under reconstruction, the IKV Stormbringer and one from the IKV Executioner). These were full of records of glorious battle and awesome victories accomplished by Klingons in service to the Empire over the years.

I also set up a donation box for Cats’ Cradle, which netted a little money for that worthy charity. Later a live tribble was placed on the KAG table and subsequently tormented and tossed around!

While putting the finishing touches on the KAG table, Lt. Cmdr. K’trava vestai Septaric, XO of the IKV Stormbringer, beamed down. It was good to see my Sister and fellow Warrior! While she stood guard, I armored up in my diplomatic outfit of red and black (my ship’s colors). When I returned, she attired herself in battle armor. When the Federation meeting was over, the KAG diplomatic zone was ready. You should have seen the looks on their faces as they scurried back and forth in front of us heading for their next meeting. At first the humans were a little wary, but when we showed no desire to attack them, they became open and friendly. After all, who in the galaxy can resist Klingon hospitality?

Suddenly, there was a shimmer of light particles and who should appear before me but a long-lost Sister, Lt. Maj’va’kut vestai-Septaric! It was very good to see her! I had gotten subspace communication that she would be shuttling in for the Summit! She gave us word of a Brother, Lt. Cmdr. Rlikay sutai-Septaric! It was good to hear that he was still around and doing very well! I hope to hear more from both of them in the future! Then when Captain Kolvar sutai-Septaric beamed in, it was a Family Reunion! As if that weren’t enough, who should come walking up the hall, but a human of familiar face, but without his telltale spots. It was L. Captain Mirodon Ris! A Trill to see him, as always!

I met the former medical officer of the IKV Stormbringer who goes by the name Phillip Dedman And we met another Klingon who goes by the name Judy Duvall. It was glorious! Also during the day I was honored to make contact with two other undercover Klingons, Mr. and Mr. Steven Rosbury (whose Klingon names I cannot find in my data banks, but who are of the venerable House Lorenssith) from the IKV Honor’s Blade. They had shuttled in from a southern province called Florida to attend the Summit AND surprise their beloved Line Lord. I was very excited to hear that! Subspace communication had indicated that Kairos, epetai of House Lorenssith, and his Lady, Khalsa, would attend, but I had not seen them yet.

In fact, until Steven brought them over and introduced them, I did not think that I had even met them before. But, as soon as I saw the couple I knew that I had! I even possessed a holo-image of Kairos taken at DragonCon in 1999, wherein he played a major role in a wedding party of one of his Line! It was a glorious experience to formally meet the Lord and Lady of House Lorenssith! All of the Klingons gathered around and we sat and talked at the KAG table while the Feddies moved around us; we hardly paid any attention to them. It was as if we were holding our own KAG mini-summit in the setting of a Starfleet Summit.

While we sat immersed in conversation, Cmdr. Matt Power conveyed a challenge to us: to participate in their annual Tug-Of-War ritual. Naturally, being drawn by anything with the word "war" attached to it, we went to check it out. This ritual involved pulling first one team and then the over across an imaginary line. The winner would take on the next team. The Klingons fought bravely and with honor, but were not victorious. I want to commend them here: they were: Kairos of House Lorenssith, Lt. Cmdr. K’Trava vestai-Septaric, and Captain Kolvar sutai-Septaric! Qapla’!

Soon afterwards the Klingons dismantled the KAG table, then left the Summit to eat (Lt. K’Trava had another engagement and Cmdr. Power, Maj’va’kut and other undercover Klingons stayed with their respective crews). We (Kairos, Khalsa, Kolvar and myself) went to a local Shoney’s and had a great time! We shuttled back to our respective home coordinates once the meal was over.

A great time was had by all!!! Perhaps we will attend again in 2002! Qapla’!

IKV Demon Lance Activities

(Klingon Kon, April 27-29, 2001)

(Women of Voyager Con, May 25-27, 2001)

A subspace communication was recently received from Lt. Ka’Sandra tai Burr, XO and Chief Medical Officer on the IKV Demon Lance, regarding the status of the ship which is stationed in Charleston, SC.

The IKV Demon Lance is very active with 31 members! Formerly a B’rel Bird of Prey, it has been redesigned. Its specific type is currently classified.

Stationed near the far edge of Central Quadrant, the IKV Demon Lance has been pressed into service protecting the Federation Space Station Lewis B. Puller. Chief among the architects of this peaceful arrangement were Starfleet Commander Cecil Mack and Lt. Commander Sandra Lee Burr, Chief Medical Officer of the SS L.B. Puller. They maintain a close and warm relationship with Klingon Warriors, Lt. Cmdr. Skal sutai Mack, CO of the IKV Demon Lance, and Lt. Ka’Sandra.

The task of the IKV Demon Lance is not limited to merely protecting the space station; the Klingon ship also serves as a transport vessel, taking both Klingon and Federation Marines into battle and bringing the wounded back to the station to be patched up and sent back to continue the fight.

The IKV Demon Lance has been active in other areas of space too. The CO and XO both attended and worked at Klingon Kon in Florida in April. They have attended numerous SS L.B. Puller battle meetings. And the XO attended the Women of Voyager Convention in Ohio and worked there.

Future plans include attending Shoreleave 23 in Hunt Valley, MD on July 13-15, 2001 and DragonCon in Atlanta, GA on August 31-September 3, 2001. While at DragonCon the CO and XO will marry in traditional Klingon style. Qapla’! (Editor’s note: for more information, see separate article under Upcoming Events)

Creation Con:

Mission To Earth (June 9, 2001)

I am Lt. Cmdr. Komat vestai-Septaric, First Officer of the IKV Glory Hunter. While watching surveillance films of the Federation (Star Trek) I received our new orders.

On June 9 & 10 (Earth Date) there would be a gathering of aliens from around the universe (Creation Con, Durham, NC, Earth). Our mission was to infiltrate that meeting and recruit honorable warriors to serve the Empire.

Preparations were made; uniforms and weapons were checked for proper operation. The coordinates were located and entered into the navigational computer. I engaged the cloak and we proceeded to Earth at warp 7.

Upon arriving at the correct coordinates, I summoned my mate, Lt. K’isk vestai-Septaric, and we proceeded to beam down to the gathering hall (the Durham Hilton).

While walking through the streets of Durham the humans gave us a thumbs up gesture. I was tempted to attack them for this, but my mate stopped me. I’m not quite sure of the meaning of this salute; I will check the ship’s data banks later.

When we walked into the building, the Humans ran to the sides of the hall, in fear of us, and let us pass. To get this kind of response made me very proud to be a Klingon warrior. There were many Humans there that were behind tables selling trinkets. They acted very much like lobe-challenged Ferengi.

We proceeded to a large room full of aliens from around the galaxy. They were all sitting together listening to a female and male human on the stage. (Marina Sirtis and Michael Dorn)

The female talked mainly about how she hated the males’ hobbies (flying airplanes). The male human had a strange Klingon quality about him. He spoke loudly with pride and honor. He also mentioned something about "The Mile High Club" and many humans laughed. I’m not sure about the meaning of this either. I’ll ask the computer about it later.

It seems that while I was taking notes about Federation movements, my mate K’isk was down the hall having great fun scaring small Human children. She said when they saw her they ran like frightened Packleds.

After being there for some time, the Humans came to accept us. They seem most excited to stand next to us and have their picture taken, especially the females of the species.

We did find some very honorable warriors there and recruited them for the Empire. The local newspaper and television also took our pictures (I suppose to warn the rest of the planet about us).

We then retuned to the beam down point and beamed to our ship. The mission was a complete success. We gathered information on upcoming Federation events (the upcoming movie, but precious little on the next television series "Enterprise") and enlisted new warriors for the Empire.

We are now on our way back to report the High Council.

QAPLA’!

Heroes Aren’t Hard To Find

Comic Book Convention (June 9-10, 2001)

Decloaking above a small green and blue planet, 3rd from the local sun, Lt. Cmdr. K'tor, epetai of House Do’Urden and CO of the KPV Krimson Fury, gave the order to maintain orbit. Responding to an invitation from the honorable warrior Keela, Central Quadrant Commander of Dark Moon Fleet, Captain K'tor and crew disembarked for some sorely-needed shore leave.

Beaming down to the preprogrammed co-ordinates, Lt. Cmdr. K'tor, Lt. D’enna vestai-Do’Urden, and Lt. Cmdr. K'az found themselves outside a huge building of some sort. Proceeding inside they tolerated the stares of the humanoids they saw streaming back and forth inside the great hall. Following a human who seemed confident and self-assured, they were taken down into a large room filled with humanoids and tables. Once there they proceeded to a table decorated with emblems of the Klingon Empire.

Serving as peace time delegates and ambassadors, K'tor and K'az, talked with humans about the Empire and glory. Assisted by Keela and a shapeshifting crewmember of the IKV Executioner, Kaltia Knight (in her Bajoran form), they continued to answer questions about the Empire, Klingons, and other matters. The confident human who had guided them earlier explained that this was Heroes Convention and that humans were fascinated with all things Klingon.

Ever patient, the cast of Klingons posed for pictures with the local humans and answered more questions. Finally at the close of day, several of the Klingons procured local transportation to a restaurant called "Shoney's". Insults were flying as well as food, and many great jokes were shared in the time-honored tradition of Klingons. Strangely, the humans were quite tolerant of this behavior and seemngly undisturbed. After such as feast, K'tor and the others were restless and raided a local toy store to learn about human culture. Again, the humans were tolerant and helpful. It was an honorable and adventurous shore leave for the crew.

On day two of the gathering, XO Q'Lor'Ta and K'az, beamed down to continue the debriefing of humans at the convention. Teaming with a local Stormtrooper whose designation is TB976 (Biker scout with Daala's Death Squad, part of the 501st Fighting Legion), a blood feud was started among the Stormtroopers and Klingons.

Sadly, the Stormtroopers won the blood feud. They proved to be honorable adversaries and allies. A strong alliance was formed that day to continue to educate humans about Klingons and the Klingon way. Several activities were planned for the Fall which will allow Klingons service to the Empire in Honor and Glory.

Jammy Jam!

Klingon Cookout / Campout / PJ Party

July 14-15, 2001

House Lorenssith / IKV Stormbringer

Kairos and Khalsa of House Lorenssith have graciously offered to host a Klingon Cookout / Campout / Pajama Party at their home in Greensboro to give area Klingons a chance to come together and have FUN!

Attendees will have approximately 2 acres upon which to pitch their tents. Bring your own camping equipment, sleeping bags, grills, tiki torches etc. Bring your headpieces to wear with your Jammies!!! If someone has an RV, Kairos can hook up water and power, however, he is limited in the number he can accommodate. Please contact him directly regarding this at:

[email protected]

Bring food for the weekend to share with everyone. There is a Food Lion around the corner if you want to wait until you're there to see what's needed. There is also an O'Brians, Dominos, Chinese, and CVS Drug Store about a mile from the Food Lion. About 2-3 miles in the other direction is a K-Mart, McDonalds, Wendy's Cap'n D's and an ABC store.

Please let the Quadrant Commander know if you plan on attending ( [email protected] ) Kairos needs a head count to determine if he needs to rent a porta pottie.

A word of caution: Remember that this is Kairos and Khalsa's home. They and their neighbors will be there long after we have shuttled back to our home coordinates. Let's party with that in mind. Don't forget to let them know how much we appreciate their hospitality.

Directions: Take your best route to Greensboro, NC. Take I-85 north / I-40 east to US 29 north. Exit 29 at Hicone Road. Right on Hicone to 2nd road on right, McKnight Mill Road. Turn right. 2nd Road on left (first paved road) is Briarmeade. Jim and Jeanne Lewis reside at 3661 Briarmeade (left side of the road). Look for a tractor mail box with the number on the mail box post. Phone: 336-375-8964

Arrival times: Friday night, July 13th, is acceptable (let Kairos know if you are planning to do so) or Saturday. Pajama party Saturday night.

North Carolina Kidfest

August 4, 2001

IKV MhaLeS’s Star

On Saturday, August 4th the annual North Carolina Kidfest will take place at The Circle in Atlantic Beach, NC. This event has been supported for several years by the IKV Firestorm (now known as the IKV MaHleS’s Star, in honor of their fallen Commander, Buddy DeWitt). Kidfest is a summer festival staged for and by children and teenagers. It involves live entertainment, educational tents, puppet shows, storytelling, Ultimate Animals (robotic animals you ride) and other fun rides, and booths where kids can sell products to benefit civic and charitable organizations focused on kids. For more information about Kidfest, call (252) 247-KIDD (5433).

This year the Klingons will hopefully have a tent with an enclosed area for a "battleground" for bat’leth challenges. Bring your own padded bat’leths to participate. (Instructions on how to make a padded bat’leth are below*)

NO LIVE STEEL is to be worn or carried at this event, NOT EVEN peace bonded daggers!!! This is a IKV MhaLeS’s Star ship policy for all of their events and we will honor it! If you have a metal weapon you want to display, you must FIRST clear this with Lt. Cmdr. Qamtin vestai-Dok’Marr’, CO of the IKV MhaLeS’s Star.

Lt. Qamtin is planning on going down Friday night, setting up and then camping on the site. That way he will be there first thing in the morning. If you are planning on arriving on Saturday morning you will have setup time from 5:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. All vehicles must be cleared away by 8:00 a.m. Kidfest will open at 9:30 a.m. and Opening Ceremonies will be at 10:00 a.m. At 9:00 p.m there will be fireworks. Kidfest will last until 10:30 p.m. You may want to make motel arrangements if you plan to stay late; unfortunately, crash space is not available.

This year there will be a modest entrance fee of around a couple dollars (if you are participating in the Klingon exhibit, you will get in free. You must let the ticket vendors know who you are if you are not already in uniform) Once you arrive at Kidfest, ask directions to the Klingon booth/tent. If you get lost, call Lt. Cmdr. Qamtin at 252-672-2224 (cellular).

All profits from this event will go to the Boys and Girls Club of Carteret County. Lt. Cmdr. Qamtin (who is on the Board for Kidfest) would love to have the support of ALL the Klingons in Central Quadrant in this very worthy endeavor. If you can help, please contact him at [email protected]

Directions: (from points west of Raleigh, take I-40 to Raleigh, then Hwy 70 to Morehead City, NC. Follow the signs to Atlantic Beach. The North Carolina Kidfest will be at The Circle across the Bridge. Parking is available on the street or in lots for a fee. There will be no shuttle service this year.

*As I understand it, padded bat’leths should be carefully constructed out of 5/8" plywood (trace and cut), painted silver, red or black, with the "blade" edge being covered in the soft tubing that insulates PVC pipe. Slit one side, slide over the "blade" and glue securely. Place rubber tips on the points and secure with black electrician’s tape. For further information, contact, Lt. Cmdr. Qamtin.

Chocolate ANYTHING is encouraged! This is a non-alcoholic event.

MARS QUEST

Catawba Science Center Opening Day

September 29, 2001

IKV Executioner

I spoke with Trish Little of the Catawba Science Center in Hickory, NC on May 15th regarding future plans to partner the IKV Executioner of KAG and the USS North Carolina, an independent Star Trek club, with the Science Center regarding Trek For Food and Mars Quest.

Regarding Mars Quest, they need both ships, and as many others in the Quadrant as can, to be there Saturday, September 29th, during the day from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This will be the FIRST day that Mars Quest is open to the public.

Trish said she would like us (the intergalactic visitors) to greet the human visitors ("Glad you could come to Mars. We just got here ourselves," etc.), as well as bid farewell to them ("Safe journey to your home coordinates," etc.). They want us to wear our best uniform/armor/costuming.

She would also like us to walk around during the day providing ambiance and speaking to the humans. We will be allowed free admission, but she MUST have an accurate head count a week in advance. We will plan to stagger our eating schedules or order out.

Bill Katzman is the Exhibit Coordinator. He needs physical help during the month of September to build the transportation room and set up the exhibit. You will be notified of the dates and times in a Quarterly Update.

The Lenoir-Rhyne College Art Department will be working on building a crash site and there may be a need for some actors among us to dress up to make a video PR as advertisement for the Mars Quest exhibit. It is entirely possible that we might have to look like Martians (break out the silver wigs and green makeup) though to avoid Star Trek copyright infringement. I will check this out.

Other plans include possibly walking in a couple of parades in late summer and a Halloween activity with both ships in armor/costume. Plans for these activities are not finalized yet.

Regarding Trek For Food, the Science Center wants to help all it can, but more discussions are necessary to determine and define what exactly they can do for us. They may be able to place large baskets in appropriate areas to collect food over a period of a month and may be able to help with PR for Trek for Food. I will keep you posted.

If you are interested in helping with any of these projects, please let me know ASAP.

Third Annual Shore Leave To A Primitive Planet

Carolina Renaissance Festival

October 20, 2001

Central Quadrant

October 20th will be the 3rd Annual Shore Leave to a Primitive Planet (Quadrant field trip to the Carolina Renaissance Festival)! This is a uniformed event, from KAG/ship t-shirts, to Renaissance garb, to Klingon Armor. Whatever you want to wear is fine as long as you come, but wearing garb, uniform or a ship/KAG t-shirt will get you a battlenotch from your ship’s CO’s (hint!)!

The Carolina Renaissance Festival is located north of Charlotte, NC between the towns of Concord and Davidson. It is between I-77 and I-85 on Highway 73 at Poplar Tent Road. Admission at the door is $12 per adult, $11 per seniors and $5 per child. Discount tickets for adults can be purchased at Harris Teeter stores for $11 for adult.

For more information and a map go to: www.royalfaires.com/Carolina/crfm2.html

The hours of the Renaissance Festival are from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. We will be arriving in separate scouting vessels so a set time to beam down is not necessary. I would like to know who is planning to go just for my own information. The Carolina Renaissance Festival is open rain or shine. Shore Leave may be postponed if it is bad weather. Check your email the night before in the event of a bad weather situation, because it gets really muddy on the site.

Otherwise, we will meet and greet you all there!

PROJECTS

Sci-Fi Book Drive for Marion, NC Inmates

Ambassador (Lt. Cmdr.) Kord vestai-Lorenssith (Brad Harmon) of the IKV Executioner is employed at a penal colony near his home coordinates. Apparently there are avid science fiction fans among the inmates, but the library lacks books in that area.

Ambassador Kord would like to ask the Quadrant to assist him in rectifying this situation. If you have extra copies of Star Trek books or science fiction books in general and want to help in this worthy venture, mail them to:

Brad Harmon

23 Tina Street

Marion, NC 28752

Ambassador Kord will give the books to the Chaplain of the penal colony. The Chaplain will, in turn, pass them on to the prison library. These donations should be tax deductible. If you need a receipt, send along a note to Ambassador Kord indicating the $ amount and enclose a SASE. Thank you for helping.

Starfleet Coupon Project

While at the Starfleet Region I Summit in Greensboro, NC on May 5th, I met Captain Carl Lewis. He told me of the Coupon Project that Starfleet was involved with and issued the challenge to the Klingons of KAG to participate. I could only speak for the Central Quadrant and I told him that this year we were in the process of rebuilding and refitting. We could only assist them in the Coupon Project this year.

But if all goes well and the program is a success and Klingons enjoy participating, then perhaps in year 2002 . . . Coupon War!

I wrote to Becky Thane to find out a good address to send them to and she said, basically, if we didn’t overwhelm her, she would be glad to take the coupons. (Captain Lewis also indicated he could be a point of receipt). Since I don’t know what kind of response I will get from asking for your help, I propose we should all send them to her and let her tell us if she can handle that volume or not. Her address is:

Becky Thane

5818 Stream Pond Court

Centerville, VA 20120-5421

Remember, overseas service men and women and their families can use coupons up to 6 months after the expiration date. Remember to keep track of the dollar amount that you send and let me know for an end-of-the-year tally. Next year Central Quadrant could adopt a base and send them direct.

Let us accept this challenge to better the lives of the men and women of the military who serve and protect the country we Klingons are stationed in.

MACE 2001

Mid-Atlantic Convention Expo 2001

November 9-11, 2001
Radisson Hotel- High Point, NC

http://www.justusproductions.com/mace.htm

Do you like the thrill of vanquishing a Goblin enemy warrior or escaping Stormtroopers just in time? Do you like the power of commanding a vast fleet of ships to pummel your enemy with high tech weapons fire or command an army of twisted demonic beings against an equally bizarre army? If you do, you sound like a gamer. MACE is a local convention formed by Jeff Smith and Justus Productions

(http://www.justusproductions.com/ ) just for gamers and fandom interested in gaming. Jeff has a long history in fandom, helping put together and advance StellarCon through his years with the Science Fiction Fantasy Federation of UNCG, and helping organize other Cons like Roc of Ages in Charlotte, NC a few year back. Today, his heart and soul is put into bringing the Carolinas MACE, the "premier gaming convention. MACE is dedicated to providing the highest quality games and related activities to you the gamer."

I, as the Gaming Coordinator, work hard every year to put together the best Game Masters (GMs) to run anything from Role-playing Games (RPGs) to Collectible Card Games (CCGs); from War games to board games of all types. If you are really into gaming or just want to try a game out, this is the convention for you.

Events also include Live Action Role Playing, RPGA gaming, Charity Auction benefiting Charlotte Zoo, and a regular visit by the Charlotte Zoo and their latest baby animals. There is always a top-notch dealers room with a good selection of fandom stuff for one buy. Quiznos Subs also sets up a Café for members to eat on site. We always have a great time all day and all night at MACE. All ages are welcome.

This year, MACE 2001 is November 9-11, 2001 at the Radisson Hotel- High Point, NC. This year is the 5th anniversary and Jeff is planning to add more to the program to celebrate. Watch the web site for special announcements of that.
