NUQNEH!!!!

From the Dark Moon Fleet Commander

Greetings to all Warriors!

As you all know by now, you have a new Quadrant Commander. I am pleased to welcome her as the new Commander and I have the utmost faith that she will do KAG, DMF, myself, and, most importantly, the Warriors of the Quadrant, proud.

I would like to take this time to let you all know about some things in the works. Some may come into being sooner than others.

1. Some added Awards that will bring life back to the Battlenotch and Killstripe program.

2. Battle streamers for major events such as Cons, etc. This will go to the ship that shows that it is the most KLINGON at the event.

3. A device that will show all people just who is at Quadrant and Fleet level. This is to give those people the added recognition that they deserve for all the hard work that they do.

Well, that's enough for right now. I request that everyone support the COC by working with, supporting, and giving suggestions on how to improve the workings of KAG.

Hovmey chIm bIngDaq batlh bIlengjaj!

Kolex

Commander, DMF

From the Outgoing Central Quadrant Commander

NuqneH, fellow Warriors,

Kahless once said that time and battle are both like a river. Once each starts flowing, they are very hard to stop. Well, time and battle have both flowed onward. In August of 1994, then-Admiral Kroesh stepped down from the Quadrant Command position that he had held for three years and turned it over to the Warrior whose human name was Jo Ann Harbor. I was just a Senior Gunner back aboard the Stormbringer then. In August of 1995 one of my fondest desires came true as I was made Commander of the Stormbringer. In September of 1996, I felt that I had reached one of my goals within the Empire. I was granted Command of the Central Quadrant of the Dark Moon Fleet.

For the past four and a half years, it has been my privilege to serve and lead the Warriors of the Central Quadrant. I have seen this Quadrant grow from just five ships when I took Command, to a high of eleven ships at one point, the second strongest Quadrant in the Dark Moon Fleet. But as time has flowed on, the constraints on my time changed - Health problems within my human family, a change in my human job, and most importantly, my rise on the Con Committee at StellarCon. As this happened, I found myself more and more with less and less time to handle things relating to KAG. Last year, I felt that I could no longer go on and started searching for a successor. Although the applicants were few, the choice was not an easy one.

On Stardate 0103.17 (March 17, 2001), it was my pleasure to officially turn command of the Central Quadrant to the newly promoted Lt. Cmdr. Keela sutai-Septaric, currently the CO of the IKV Executioner out of Hickory, NC. Lt. Cmdr. Keela is an able Warrior and ready to assume command of the Quadrant. I ask that you, the COs and Crews of the Central Quadrant, give her your full support. I believe that she will lead and rebuild the Quadrant on to new heights of glory and make KAG's name feared once more in this area where the Federation seems to be trying to rebuild its strength.

And what is to be my fate, you may wonder? I will be advising Keela on matters and acting as a sounding board for her as one of her official advisors. I will also be taking a sabbatical from most things KAG, although you may see me in uniform or at an event from time to time. I am NOT retiring from KAG at this point. I am hoping that my schedule will settle down some and allow me to go back to my first Command. There is a certain K'Termeny class Destroyer sitting in mothballs in the Sudeyev Shipyards, just waiting for the right time to be upgraded with heavier weapons and shields. Be assured, that one day, if that vessel ever clears spacedock once more, I will be sitting in the Command Chair.

Lt. Cmdr. Keela and the rest of the Central Quadrant, I wish you success on your next "five-year mission." Go boldly and conquer, for you, you are KLINGONS! Qapla'!

Captain Kolvar sutai-Septaric - Outgoing Commander - Central Quadrant - Dark Moon Fleet

From the Incoming Central Quadrant Commander

Hail to ALL the Warriors of the Central Quadrant!

I am Lt. Cmdr. Keela sutai-Septaric, new CO of the Central Quadrant of the Dark Moon Fleet, KAG as of March 17th, 2001 at StellarCon.

As you know Central Quadrant is made up of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Washington, DC. Because of (obvious) Federation sabotage* and unavoidable collisions with errant asteroids, many of our navigational beacons and communications arrays in these areas of space have been damaged or destroyed.

Repair crews are currently working feverishly to re-establish contact with all our ships in the Quadrant. Communications will be facilitated by this newsletter, copies of which will be posted throughout Klingon space and the known universe.

I call upon all Ships to respond to me with their current status and contact information, so that I may dispatch regular communications and support to your coordinates. I ask all Warriors to pass along this request to all other Ships out of range of our hails, yet within Central Quadrant.

Let the Cardassians quiver and the Dominion demur! Let the Federation faint and the Gorns grovel! Let the Romulans run and the Stormtroopers swoon! The Klingons are back in business in the Central Quadrant!

Starfleet Region One Summit

Nuq'neh, Warriors of the Central Quadrant! I have initiated diplomatic inquiries as to the possibility of a contingent of Klingons attending the Starfleet Region 1 Summit 2001 in Greensboro, NC (in Central Quadrant space) _ April 27-29 _ on Saturday, April 28th. The website information can be found at

www.R1Summit2001.iwarp.com

Cost for a day is $10, if you preregister. Otherwise, it's $15 at the door. The CO/XO luncheon is $7 pre-registered, $10 at the door. There is a Saturday night banquet with a pre-registration pricetag of $20 ($25 at the door), but this is not a requirement for attendance. Thanks to Lt. Col. QI'chel for providing this information. The following is a copy of the subspace communication from Rear Admiral Jack Hopkins that I received regarding Klingon presence at the Summit:

Lt. Cmdr. Keela vestai-Septaric, I bring you greetings from the Region One Summit at Greensboro, NC, USA, Earth! We wish to extend a formal invitation to all members of the Klingon Assault Group to join us at our summit here on Earth. The registration page is at 2001 Region One Summit. We look forward to meeting with all of you and sharing a glass of blood-wine. Live long and Prosper, Jack Hopkins, 2001 R1 Summit, Greensboro, NC

If you are interested in attending, please let me know. I encourage all Klingons of Central Quadrant to do attend. This is our golden opportunity to remind Starfleet they are not alone in this region of space and they are very, very excited we are attending! Our communications intercepted this encrypted message to Starfleet Region 1:

To Arms! To Arms! The Klingons are coming! The Klingons are coming!

Hello Region One!

The Region One Summit is pleased to announce that members of the Klingon Assault Group (KAG) will be joining us this year. We ask that all members of STARFLEET treat our guest[s] with the utmost respect. (We would also suggest bringing phasers, plasma rifles and body armor. You know how those Klingons like to party!) <g> Don't forget to register! 2001 Region One Summit

Live Long and Prosper, [Rear Admiral] Jack Hopkins, 2001 R1 Summit, Greensboro, NC

I have been told we will have a secure neutral zone (KAG table) in which we can meet and greet one another. All live steel and weapons must be peace bonded. My email is: [email protected] or you may call me at (828) 758-5160.

New KAG Contacts List and Guidelines

Hail Central Quadrant Ship Commanders! I have just received a copy of the new KAG Guidelines from Captain Kerla zantai-MaHcha' and they look very clear and understandable. Also there is a new KAG Contacts List nearly ready for publication. Stay tuned for more details on how you can get your own copy!

Battlenotches

Among other things, I have been discussing the Battlenotch and Killstripe program with the Dark Moon Fleet Commander, Captain Kolex sutai-QIHqem. He has suggested that Ship CO's approve Battlenotches and Killstripes at their level. I think that is a very good idea and concur with him. This will be the Battlenotch and Killstripe policy in Central Quadrant.

So, Ship Commanders do not have to send requests for Battlenotches and Killstripes in to him, nor do they need to be sent to me. Ship COs may award them at their discretion. However, COs, you do need to keep good records of the number of awards each crew person receives. In the future, Captain Kolex wants to know when each person reaches 100, then 200, etc.

He also wants to know how many people currently have Battlenotches and Killstripes in the Quadrant, so please send this information in to him right away! He wants to know how many have 50+, 100+, 200+, 500+, etc.

There is an updated KAG Contacts List coming out soon, but until then you can reach Captain Kolex at:

Recruiting Drive

General Qor'toq zantai-DevnoH, Marine Commandant, KAG, has issued a challenge to all the Marines and also to KAG in general: As of April 1, 2001 a recruiting drive will begin. It will end at Galacticon on March 23, 2002. This recruiting drive is not for Marines alone, but for all branches of KAG service: Navy, IXL, etc. A prize will be given to the individual who recruits the most personnel into KAG. Each person recruited results in a point being gained. All recruits must have an application filled out. Additionally, the launching of a new ship as a result of the recruiting drive will garner the recruiter 2 points per ship.

According to General Qor'toq, there are no points for transferring personnel from any other branch of KAG to the Marines. May I add that there is no branch of KAG more or less honorable than another. There is also no branch more or less capable than the other. Let's all work together to make KAG bigger and stronger by bringing in new recruits!

RE-NAME That Quadrant!

Central Quadrant is a good and serviceable name, but Klingons have a natural flair for the dramatic _ we are Klingons, after all! It has been the desire of many to choose a different name for the Quadrant in which we reside that is more exemplary our rich Klingon heritage. So once again, the campaign to rename Central Quadrant has been ignited and is open to all who reside therein!

In the last issue of the Communicator, some of the names that were suggested were:

Central Quadrant (still a viable name)

Dark Star Quadrant

Dragon's Eye Quadrant

Inquisitor's Revenge Quadrant

Dark Nebula Quadrant

Dragon's Heart Quadrant

Afterward, I submitted these:

Iron Claw Quadrant

Dragon Fang Quadrant

Cold Comet Quadrant

Dark Heart Quadrant

Warrior Heart Quadrant

Dark Comet Quadrant.

(My personal favorite is Warrior Heart Quadrant, naturally.)

Recently, newly promoted Lt. Col. QI'chel sutai-DevwI'nesh suggested: Ravaged Soul Quadrant

Let all these names get your Klingon creative juices flowing! Submit your suggested name changes to the Quadrant by June 18th. All proposed name changes will be published in the next quarterly issue (July) of the Communicator.

After the proposed Quadrant names are published, you will be given the chance to vote (maximum of two choices per Warrior, ranked first and second) by sending an email message to a yet to be determined address for a specific duration of time, TBA. A decision will be made based on the number of votes received. A special communication will be made to announce the selection of the new Quadrant name.

Simply re-naming the Quadrant will not be the end of your duties! After the Quadrant has a new name, we will need to render it graphically for our new banner. As soon as the announcement of the name is made, I will be asking all of our Warriors to send in an artistic representation OR written description of what they think the new Quadrant banner should look like, based on its new name preferably. There will be a specific duration of time to get these into the Quadrant, again TBA.

It does not end there! Once the Quadrant has its new name, the newsletter name will change to reflect the Quadrant name. Along with the request for banner suggestions, I will also request potential names for the newsletter. A special panel of judges will decide the best name for the newsletter, credited to whoever submits it.

I hope that by moving along with this process quickly, it will enable us to have the Quadrant name change in position, as well as a graphic rendering of the new Quadrant banner logo, by the October quarterly issue of the newsletter.

Selecting a new name, banner, etc., will also help us get to work sooner on building our Quadrant website, creating a Quadrant e-list, and making necessary changes on other Quadrant-related publications.

So, get your suggestions for a new Quadrant name in NOW!!

StellarCon 25 Report (March 17, 2001)

Leaving the relative safety of IKV Executioner-patrolled space, Lt. Keela vestai-Septaric, CO, and Lt. Katkith tai, XO, shuttled towards the coordinates of StellarCon. After safely docking, cargo was off-loaded to set up the KAG table.

A plain white-skirted table was decorated with a top cloth of black. The KAG poster took the position of honor in the front of the table with a red satin pennant behind it. Above the poster on the top of the table was the skin of a fresh kill upon which rested a single red candle. A smaller red pennant extended from under the fur, giving the illusion of the tallest element of the Imperial trefoil. A green pennant, with a color representation of a red on black Imperial trefoil affixed to it, hung at the left side of the KAG poster. A blue pennant, similarly adorned, hung at the right. Other red, blue and green satin pennants hung on the ends. A telecommunications/recording device was positioned ground level on one side of the table and tapes featuring Klingons and Klingon-related subject matter were played in it. The table was covered with photo albums from a couple of ships, a bat'leth (acquired from a nearby arms merchant on Saturday), a boxed pewter Bird of Prey, and brochures and applications, both Navy and Marine.

The KAG base camp was manned from 5pm to 7pm on Friday, 10am to 6pm on Saturday, and 10am to around 3pm on Sunday. There were brief periods during which the table was switched to autopilot while helpful fellow merchants/dealers/staff, etc., kept watch. Periodically, Quadrant CO, Captain Kolvar sutai-Septaric stopped by to check up on on how things were going. Several contacts were made, including meeting Lt. Cmdr. K'Tor vestai-Do'Urden and his wife, Lt. D'enna vestai-Do'Urden, of the KPV Krimson Fury (Demon Fleet), and Earlene Cook of the IKV Soul Shredder. Keela got a chance to talk to Dan Anderson and Lt. Cmdr. K'Trava vestai-Septaric of the drydocked (but hopefully soon under repair) IKV Stormbringer.

Around 1400 hours, Keela and Katkith began to armor up for the KAG meeting. Keela brought her newly-sewn Dark Moon Fleeet banner (modern rendering) and stand. As soon as the area was vacated, she set up the banner, indicating Dark Moon Fleet's presence.

Around 1500 hours Central Quadrant CO, Captain Kolvar, greeted the attending Warriors, consisting of Major QI'chel vestai DevwI'nesh and Marine Captain Mot Yar vestai-DevwI'nesh of the IKAV Grand Inquisitor; Marine Major K'vitte vestai-DevwI'nesh of the IKAV Dragon's Heart; Lt. Comander K'trava; Lt. Cmdr. K'Tor and Lt. D'enna; and Katkith and Keela. The Quad CO received reports and news from all ships represented. He promoted several Warriors from the IKV Executioner who could not be present, especially long-time friend, Ambassador Kord vestai-Lorenssith (see elsewhere for list of promotions). He also promoted Katkith and Keela to new rank. After an emotional farewell speech to the attendees, Captain Kolvar instated Lt. Cmdr. Keela sutai-Septaric to the position of Quadrant CO.

The new Quad CO presented Captain Kolvar with a Dark Moon Fleet pin and then hurled Kisses and Hugs at him (Kolvar's chocoholism is legendary). Afterwards, she read the words she had prepared for the occasion. Having been posted throughout the Quadrant, they will not be repeated here. Suffice to say, she called for setting aside of differences to work together to build the Quadrant. In closing, she urged all to let honor guide their words and deeds. Glory would follow close behind. The speech was received with applause, shouts and growls of approval. Afterwards, with suggestions from the attendees, the new CO discussed some of the things the Quadrant needed to do right away to begin rebuilding: a new quadrant name and banner, a regular newsletter, a quadrant-specific e-list, and website were among the needs mentioned. Lt. Cmdr. Keela called for another formal Quadrant meeting at DragonCon.

The meeting was adjourned soon after and the Klingons were invited to be interviewed by a local cable station. The premise of the request was that there was another convention doing civil war recreation that same weekend and the producers of the show wanted to show a futuristic side to recreational activity. Those interviewed were: Lt. Cmdr. Keela, Marine Major K'vitte, and Lt. Cmdr. K'Tor. Captain Kolvar will be checking into the availability of copies of the videotape and reporting on it.

Afterwards the Klingons dispersed to their personal encampments. Later that night there was a costume contest and one of the judges was the IKAV Grand Inquisitor's own Brian Holloway, in his Cardassian persona. His IXL name is Tae'laan. Afterwards, during the Cabaret that night there was a wonderful skit featuring Klingons (starring Captain Kolvar) and the use of the word Qaplá! It is hoped that a videotape was made and will soon become available.

Sunday's time at the KAG table was very laid back. Everything was packed up by around 4:00 p.m. and the command staff of the IKV Executioner shuttled back to their home coordinates safely.

There WILL be a chocolate party at StellarCon 26 by order of the new Quadrant Commander.

Galacticon (KAG Spring Break) Report (March 23-25, 2001)

I went to Galacticon the weekend of March 23-25. Originally, I was not planning to go. In the end, I am glad I did.

We got to the Con at 1:30 p.m. Registration opened at 3 p.m. The Con Scheduling was pretty simple. They left most of the happenings to KAG people.

The Con itself was rather small. A staff person told me that this was once called Magic Carpet Con. There was a year gap and then it started up again.

The Con Suite was indeed sweet! I had a good time. The liquid refreshment kept flowing and people there really worked hard to make sure everyone was well fed. FREE BEER! I don't drink, but it was nice to see all the same, I have to admit. The Dealer's Room was very small. The goods were select for the most part. I liked it overall.

There was some SCA stuff at Galacticon. We had a breakfast chat with Diana Paxson. She helped start the SCA many years ago [Editor's note: over 30 years ago]. It was wonderful to have heard from her. She is a nice lady. I hope to see her again one of these days.

There was some filking going on as well, which I enjoyed. Filking has never been huge on my list of things to do. This year . . . it was fun! The wedding and wet t-shirt contest were also fun at Galacticon.

The Klingon Assault Group is a great club. There were enough members at Galacticon to make it well worth attending. I had a blast meeting people like Kerla, K'Jett and a host of others I had only spoken to online.

My view of KAG is that it is a club that is fun and has interesting people in it. There are those, of course, who take it seriously and those who do not. Communication in KAG is becoming better. The KAG Guidelines have been re-issued. These guidelines are basically the same, just condensed. These will be online soon, I have heard.

I left Galacticon with a number of feelings. I belong to the SCA as many know. That is a huge organization compared to KAG. It is also an organization I put a lot of energy into. KAG, on the other hand, is a small organization. I have seen people work themselves to death to get things done and I have seen people sit on their fingers. What makes things worse in KAG is, because it is a smaller club, the lack of immediate response is very noticeable.

I have agreed to gather information and pass it on. My attitude will be a positive one. I have noticed that we have lost quite a few ships in KAG. But things are on an upswing I think. In 1994 when I first became aware of KAG, we had a number of ships in North Carolina. Most had very active chapters. We are a skeleton of that now. We have the IKAV Grand Inquisitor and the IKV Executioner. There is an active Demon Fleet ship, the KPV Krimson Fury, close by.

My short term goal is to recruit new members in the Carolinas. I hope to recruit in VA as well. I have appointed myself ship's Recruiting Officer and Lt. Col. QI'chel has made me Quadrant Marine Recruiting Officer. Since the duties of my Quadrant appointment will be many and will require a lot of attention, I am resigning as Weapons Officer for the IKAV Grand Inquisitor.

Kyral has done a great job of recruiting people in the past. I will work with him and exchange information. It will not happen overnight, but we on the IKAV Grand Inquisitor have agreed to make a basic new member's package for distribution. This will consist of:

1. KAG Guidelines

2. Marine Guidelines

3. Contact information

4. Suppliers and Resource guides (fabric, makeup supplies, con information and such).

As Quadrant Recruiting Officer, I plan to use small Bat'leh pendants as a promotional incentive. Once a person recruits 5 (or 10, I haven't decided) members into KAG, irregardless of military branch, with all of the paperwork completed _ they get one.

I will enjoy myself in KAG, one way or another. I have gotten a number of ideas just by watching and talking to people at this past weekend's Con. The IKAV Grand Inquisitor hosts the "Dead Tribble" Bar, which is always enjoyable. I have this sick idea of running a live-action, role-playing game at Conventions. This would have Klingon themes, but other Aliens are invited to play as well. I just need to recruit volunteers to assist me with this. I will steal rules from other groups and use them in my game. Where there is a will, there is a way to make all things work!

KAG will be fun for me if I enjoy it. I am looking forward to making this a FUN club for me and for other people. If I never get promoted again, I will not care . . . my success will be measured in FUN and not rank!

[Central Quadrant CO's note: I offer my heartfelt thanks to Lt. Col. QI'Chel sutai-DevwI'nesh, who carried my words to Galacticon, and to Marine Major K'vitte vestai-DevwI'nesh, who read them to the Warriors assembled there! Qaplá!]

DAYS OF HONOR (March 24, 2001)

Report from IKV Executioner

Crew of the IKV Executioner entered their respective parking orbits around Media Play in Hickory, NC around 10:00 a.m. to celebrate the Klingon Days of Honor. After beaming down, I first raised the Dark Moon Fleet banner to establish our foothold on the small planetoid. The Klingons: myself and Sgt. Kehlyr Ma'audib, and our Vulcan crew member, Sgt. T'Kel, labored swiftly to set up the KAG encampment. Unfortunately a shipment of one table did not arrive at the designated coordinates due to Lt. K'Logg tai contracting a variant of the hard-hitting Terran Flu. Being Klingons, we improvised using native facilities. Successfully, of course!

Afterwards, Kehlyr surgically reattached T'Kel's cryogenically stored eartips. While the restored T'Kel stood guard over our encampment, Kehlyr and I armored up. Then we returned to finish fine-tuning our equipment and displays.

Our efforts were rudely interrupted by an artificial voice. "There's a Bird of Prey double parked out front!" the Storm-trooper barked. "You'll have to move it!" Threats were exchanged to everyone's mutual enjoyment and the Star Warrior peacefully joined our Days of Honor encampment.

Suddenly there was a shimmer of light particles and a Romulan Commander appeared before us. Verelan was her name. She, in turn, set up her own encampment beside ours for the Days of Honor.

Down the path came two Federation officers, Lt. Cmdr. Robert Bailey and Ensign Sovok, a Vulcan. Soon after, the commanding officer of their ship, Captain Eddie Williams, came bearing a table for the Federation encampment. He set up the table on the opposite end of the Klingons with the Romulan table in the buffer zone. Alas without provisions or equipment (to have been provided by Admiral Billy Ray Carswell, who also mysteriously came down with a variant of the Terran Flu) the Feddies were saved by the final member of the Klingon contingent, Lt. Kord vestai-Lorenssith.

Ambassador to the Federation by appointment in September of 1992, Kord was enroute from trading for Federation supplies with the Ferengi. "An Ambassador is always prepared," he chortled, sharing his plunder with the needy Feds.

The Klingons rapidly assumed control of Media Play's communication system and announced to the inhabitants that they had been invaded and why. Requests were made periodically to give to Hospice of Catawba Valley, an honorable charitable organization. About $40 was raised for Hospice during the time we were there. It was a peaceful and successful Day of Honor wherein sworn enemies worked together to help the terminally ill.

A formal Klingon promotion ceremony (see elsewhere for names) and an joint meeting between all parties also took place.

Unfortunately, the Romulan attendee had to shuttle out early due to another engagement. 1700 hours nearing, all attendees packed up. Afterwards most of the Klingons, Feddies and the Stormtrooper beamed up to our respective shuttles and flew to a restaurant asteroid to eat. A hearty time was had by all in our 2001 observation of the Klingon Days of Honor! Qaplá!

Star Trek: The Prequel

The fifth series in the Star Trek franchise will be a prequel to the Classic Trek series and feature at least one familiar name: the Vulcan T'Pau who will serve as first officer. The new Star Trek program will emphasize ethnic and intergalactic diversity through its cast of characters. It is expected to debut on UPN this fall. It is unknown at this point if Klingons will make an appearance in the prequel, but what Star Trek series would be complete without them? Qaplá!

ONE FINAL REFLECTION!!!!

From the Editor

Warriors of the Central Quadrant! What you have just read is the long-awaited next volume of our Quadrant newsletter, the Communicator.

Starting with this issue, the Central Quadrant Communicator will be published on a quarterly basis. Though designed originally and especially for CO's, this first issue of Volume 2 will be published on-line through as many different avenues as possible to get the word out that Central Quadrant is under new management, and up and running again.

To keep costs of printing and mailing to an absolute minimum, the Quadrant will employ the cyber medium whenever possible for all its business. The plan is to have a permanent location that the Quadrant newsletter can be posted to so that ship CO's can access it easily. In time, this will be accomplished.

Ship CO's are encouraged to share the Quadrant newsletter with their crews. In turn, Ship CO's are encouraged to share their news with the Quadrant! Catch up news over the past two years is welcomed if there is enough space. Most importantly, the Communicator wants to let the rest of the Quadrant know your current and upcoming victories and battles. The deadline for the next issue of the Communicator is June 18th. Submissions for the July issue may be sent to: [email protected] or they may be snail mailed to:
