HOW IT ALL STARTED
One day, while Jan (the creator) was walking along the Katipunan avenue with his high school classmate Magic, they came up with the idea of drawing some of the funniest moments of their college life into a comic strip. The plan was simple, Jan was to think of the jokes and write the script, while Magic will draw everything. Things don't usually go as planned. As the two arrive at KFC-Katipunan, they met JC, Luigi, and eL. After eating, Jan took a sheet of table napkin and drew the very first Katips-ahoy character, Enzo, based on the features of eL (whole name, Lorenzo). Then, Jan drew rough sketches of Dande, another one of his high school classmates, and Magic, and named the new characters Danny and Jeek respectively.
As the five went out of KFC, and crossed the street to Ateneo (gate 3), Jan was having a hard time deciding what the title of the strip would be. Plenty of suggestions came up, but it all lead to the one coined by Magic (and supported by Luigi), Katips-ahoy. During their Ps43 class with Mr. Pat Dailisan (Teacher Patdai was based on him), Jan tried to draw himself, but failed. He then asked Luigi to draw him. Luigi started the drawing, but being an avid listener of Mr. Dailisan, Luigi didn't finish his drawing. However, this unfinished drawing paved way for the creation of Katips-ahoy's main character, Jan (Duh?! Sino pa ba magiging bida?)
During that same class, Jan designed Ses (based on his blockmate Ceceil, a.k.a. Ces), Ghost (based on... ummm... that's a secret), and Mario (based on Luigi, hehe).
Then, Jan drew the first Katips-ahoy strip, featuring Jan, Jeek, and Danny. Since then, more and more strips were produced, featuring more and more characters such as Namoks, Junjun, Carlos (based on JC), and the teachers, Patdai, Star, Balrog, and Beneath. A computer scan of the original tissue paper (the one Jan wrote on in KFC) and the very first Katips-ahoy strip will appear here soon so keep visiting! ;)
