Strange World
Part 2
At the hacienda Don Diego introduces Leone
to his father, and his son Felipe. They are both honoured to have a special
quest in the house. Both don’t know how she came in at first, because Don Diego
took care of her being changed properly. His father has always kept his wife’s
clothes in her closet, like she has never died at all. Diego told Leone that
she would have to wear them, but had to say that those were her mother’s
clothes.
She promised. Don Alejandro recognized the
clothes, so she said as told.
"My mother thought this dress would
fit me more than herself," she explains.
Felipe got her hand to kiss it, which made
as well Don Diego as Don Alejandro proud of his gentle behaviour.
"Tell me how is Spain?" Don
Alejandro inquires.
"Lovely and more crowed than
here," she replies neutrally.
"What does your father exactly
do?" He is curious to know who her father is, and his connections to the
king.
"Well, he is always gone, always
talking. I’m afraid I don’t really know." She ashamed and added shyly,
"I don’t really care for politics. I’d rather take a long walk, ride
horseback, make some paintings, and read the whole day long. Of course I like
those many parties the celebrities give."
"You sound like my son, you two would
make a good couple." Alejandro says a little disappointed at first, but
happy at the thought he might have more grandchildren after all.
Leone blushes deeply, but says nothing. At
that moment Victoria is standing in the room. She is jealous at hearing those
last words of the old man.
"Victoria, what is the matter,"
Don Diego immediately asks as he sees her.
Victoria has to find herself, but than
answers that the Alcalde is causing troubles again.
"He will hang Don Sebastian Cuerrera,
for being Zorro."
"How can that be?" Don Alejandro
wants to know why the Alcalde will hang that caballero.
"He found his mask, he says,"
replies Victoria.
"We must prevent it, Diego come with
me. We will have a word with our Alcalde. Felipe you stay here with señorita
Leone," is Don Alejandro’s decision.
The younger men both protest. Felipe is a
man, and wants to be there and his father wants to end his science tests.
"Oh well, then do as you
please," Alejandro looks angry at the younger ones. "Come Victoria
let’s go."
Felipe rushes to follow them. When all are
out of earshot Don Diego demands to Leone to stay where she is, and should read
a book. Sighing he enters the cave to transform into his alter ego. Good
heavens, how will I handle those women?
At the same time four other people are
asking themselves almost the same thing.
Why is she feeling so jealous about seeing
Diego and Leone together?
When will Diego tell Victoria what he is
feeling about her?
Who is the charming señorita in their
hacienda, are Felipe’s thoughts.
Don Alejandro is getting more and more
disappointed by his only son. Why is he so
determined not getting married? Why he is
acting like a coward?
"For taking crimes against the
Spanish crown over the years, Don Sebastian Cuerrera known as Zorro will be
hung at dawn tomorrow," the Alcalde yells over the plaza to frighten his
people. "Anyone who will assist him in his escape will be hung next to
him, as well as his or her family."
"Alcalde," cries Victoria,
"everybody can see, you‘ll be hanging the wrong man. Zorro is younger than
Don Sebastian."
"Is he, now," he replies to
Victoria, "how interesting. Zorro is a common thief. You shouldn’t be
romancing him. Or do you have an affair with Zorro, señorita?"
"Victoria’s right, Alcalde, and you
know it," interferes Don Alejandro. "Many times he was at the same
place that Zorro was."
"Just as now, " Zorro adds
ironically standing a few meters behind him.
"Mendoza, arrest this outlaw,"
commands De Soto.
"Zorro, you’re under arrest," he
repeats the order seriously, although he doesn’t like to. He knows without
Zorro, his pueblo would be a worse place to live in.
"Am I, sergeant?" he asks.
"Men get him," he then
stimulates his men. With this, the action has started.
Elegantly, Zorro challenges his enemies.
Just one whistle was needed to get Toronado on the plaza and unarming the
soldiers. Zorro gets his sword and points it towards Ignatio De Soto.
"Release him," is his only demand.
"Why should I?" says the
Alcalde. The Alcalde is behaving different than ever. His courage has raised.
But why?
Then Victoria warns Zorro "Look out,
Zorro, behind you!" But it is too late.
It seems like the sun has disappeared. A
cold breeze makes everybody on the plaza shiver, the Alcalde excluded. He
smiles like a devil. His plan has worked. Finally he can go back to his beloved
Madrid. Everyone on the plaza heard the gunshot, which was followed by a
masculine voice screaming painfully. Zorro was hit by a bullet in his left
side. Toronado came to his rescue. Painfully, Zorro can get himself on his
stallion.
Felipe is scared to death. "Oh no
father," he thought. At the same moment everybody realizes what happened,
and tries to stop the soldiers to hurt Zorro more than he is now.
"Alcalde, you’re a dead man,"
Zorro threatens him.
"I doubt that señor," he answers
the painful man. "Your last hours have come Zorro." He grins
dirty.
Zorro rides back, leaving the people
fighting against the soldiers. A next shot has fired which hit Zorro’s arm. The
man can barely keep his balance, but succeeds to remain in his saddle. Toronado
rushes to the hideout.
In the mean time, Felipe tries to find out
who shot his father. How dare he. At the second shot, he noticed where the man
was hiding himself. Slowly and silently he approaches his prey. The man is
reloading his gun. He is so concentrated that he doesn’t see Felipe coming
closer and closer. Then Felipe jumps on the man and hit him in his stomach.
Just another punch and the man seems to be knocked out. It happened so fast
that the man couldn’t warn the Alcalde of him being attacked. When he recovers,
he catches his knife to kill the brave young man. Unfortunately to the man,
Felipe is quicker and put a step backward and tackles his enemy. The man falls
and gets killed by his own weapon.
Felipe is shocked, but realizes he
shouldn’t be seen like this. So he finds his way back to Alejandro and
Victoria. Victoria is weeping badly. This is the way he feels too, but he has
to be strong. He puts his arm around the young woman’s shoulder, to whom he has
warm feelings. I would be so happy to have her as my new mother. Don Alejandro
allows Felipe to comfort her. Now he can talk to the Alcalde about Don
Sebastian. It isn’t necessary, because De Soto had decided to let the man go.
The citizens have come to peace again, and take up their lives hoping Zorro
could escape and will survive this attack.
