December Skating Notes

Dec. 9th 2004

Well, my schedule at work has changed, and unfortunately skating during my lunch hour isnt' an option any more. The last time I went skating, which was sometime last week, I felt brave and decided to try some combinations incorporating the loop. I tried some waltz loops and loop loops. It felt awkward, but I'm sure these combinations feel awkward to anyone the first time you try them. Since my opportunities for taking lessons are so slim right now, I'd rather play around with new things and have my coach fix them if needed than work on the same skills over and over. Sometimes you just need to try something new and spice things up. I cant' wait to get on the ice again, although i cant' really say when that will happen.

Anyways, I can hardly move my arms today, I worked bars the whole time I was at gymnastics last night. I have decided to compile a list of the skills that I can do, including what needs work, and the skills I have yet to accomplish. Of course there will always be harder skills to add to the list of things to accomplish, but for now I'll stick to attainable goals. (If you consider a kip attainable!)

Accomplished skills on bars:
*pull-over
*back hip circle
*front hip circle-work for consistancy
*cast to tuck-on
*cast to tap swing
*sole circle dismount (with 1/2 twist)
*flyaways (in the pit) work for constancy

Skills to work on:

*Mill circles
*Kips
*Cast to tuck-on, jump to high bar
*long-hang hip pullovers
*flyaway (on regular bars)
