Feeding and Watering Tips
To keep weight on a horse:  Every time you feed the horse, pour vegetable oil on the grain.  It gives them a soft coat and helps put on or keep body fat.
Use an old spaghetti strainer to strain out hay and stuff from water buckets or water tanks. It also works when trying to get broken ice chunks out of buckets.  Plus, your hands stay warmer!
If your barn area suffers from regular freezing, a basketball or soccer ball floating in the water trough will keep it from completely freezing over.  Be sure not to fill the tank all the way to the top, or your ball can blow away in the wind.  If you get a very hard freeze, you may need to invest in a water heater.
If your horse won't drink his/her water, Fill half of the water bucket with hot water and the rest with cold water, or add salt to his water bucket. This usually works!
