Horse Camp
This is me with my favorite horse, Blue
I got to camp and met my instructors- Laura and Sarah.  Then we took a tour of the barn and got familiar with everything, and also learned all the horse's names.  Laura and Sarah also went over some different breeds and colors of horses with us.  Most of- if not all of the horses at Casalae are Arabians, my favorite breed. :-)  Next, we learned about feeding, and how much food to give a certain size of horse.  After that, we each got a horse, while learning to put on a halter on at the same time.  Then we got out our currycombs, brushes, and hoofpicks and groomed the horses to get them ready for riding.  We were told about the differences between English and Western saddles, I choose Western because it looked a lot more comfortable than the English saddle! :-) Laura and Sarah got the horses saddled up and we took them down to the riding arena.  I mounted onto my horse, Mint (I was very proud of myself because people used to have to haul me up onto horses).  I sat on the horse for a few minutes until Laura said "Okay, Katie, go ahead and walk Mint".  And I'm thinking "Don't you understand that I've never ridden a horse in my life??  Aren't you going to walk next to me?? What if the horse takes off running? Finally, I kicked him and we started walking, my body shaking and my teeth chattering. :-) :-)  After we walked around a few times, I told myself that he wasn't going to run off, and that it was really stupid to be scared of a sweet little horse! :-P  I finally got comfortable, and pretty soon I was galloping around. :-) Camp lasted 4 days, we pretty much rode most of the next 3 days.
Sarah also showed us how to put up a horse's tail, and how to braid it for showing.  I loved camp, it was so FUN!!!
