The Public Safety Program at Porterville College is designed to prepare students for employment in the areas of Law Enforcement, Corrections, and Fire Service. In the area of Law Enforcement, Porterville College offers a two-year A.A. Degree, a certificate in Law Enforcement and the extended format, modular training for Police Reserves. The training academies offered at the college are under the direction of the Porterville Law Enforcement Training Center (P.L.E.T.C.), which is directed by the Criminology Department at the college as well as the Law Enforcement Advisory Committee. The Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certifies the Police Reserve Academy. In the area of Corrections, Porterville College offers a two-year A.A. Degree, a certificate in Corrections and Correctional Officer Core Course Academy. The Correctional Core Course is certified by Standards and Training for Corrections (S.T.C.). In the area of Fire Service, the college offers the Fire Fighter I Academy. The Fire Fighter I Academy is accredited by the California State Fire Marshal's Office. The curriculum surveys the history, development, theory, and practical application of knowledge in the areas of Law Enforcement, Corrections, Parole and Probation. Curriculum is kept current through contacts with other colleges and criminal justice agencies. Two full-time instructors and several adjunct faculty from the various local agencies provide instruction within the curriculum.
