| Eulogy For a Goldfish Alternate Version You were ever trusting And always believed in me Even when I forgot To feed you for three days. You simply swam around in that Tepid, unpurified water Looking up through tiny retina Of caviar eyes. A blurred vision With layers of water and glass To a distorted face you call home. Born to a plastic bag Within cardboard walls of A traveling carnival. What did you have to live ofr? Never smelling the heaven-scent Of a freshly fallen rain storm. Never feeling the serenity Of a violin singing. Yet as you swam by your three inch Clay Castle, Your eyes showed a belief That you were indeed Some type of King (or Queen). And as you slowly floated to the top of your almost crystal bowl, I could hear some far off, Unseen Kingdom Tiny caviar tears. As the ocean waves crash against The rocks of mortality, As thousands of flowing fishy tails And golden scales Swim through a whirlpool of mourning, Let these words of appreciation Show the sound of my sorrow. |
