II. Objectives: Students will interpret various changes Ponyboy’s character has gone
through throughout the story and explain them to each

III. Procedures
A. Materials Needed: copy of the book The Outsiders, reading guide, overhead projector and overhead markers, handouts of activity seven, overhead of activity seven.
B. Anticipatory Set: Teacher will begin class by having students count off from one to four to form four groups.
C. Lesson Activities: Class will begin by students counting off to form four groups. After all students have been assigned to a group, each student should move to be with the other members of his or her group. After all members of each group have come together teacher will hand out activity seven. After all students have received handout, teacher will explain what each group is to do. The group who counted off ones will do number one of the activity, the group who counted off twos will do number two, the group who counted off threes will do number three, and the group who counted off fours will do number four. Students should have 10-15 minutes to complete this activity. After that time teacher should stop groups and go to overhead and put up overhead transparency of activity seven. With students remaining in groups, they should present what they have written down for their part of the activity. Teacher will write what the students have concluded, and anything any other students would like to add. As teacher is writing on overhead, other groups should be filling in the blank areas of their handouts so that all blanks for numbers one through four are completed with students’ findings on all papers. After all blanks for numbers one through four are completed and discussion is over students should move back to their original positions.
D. Culminating Activity: Students should read chapter ten and complete plot log (see lesson one) for homework.
IV. Closure: Students
should individually complete number five of activity seven. All papers should
be turned in at end of period. At this time students may ask any questions
about activities done in class, the novel, or the homework assignment.
