I. Introduction to Lesson:

A.  Wisconsin State Standards and Benchmarks: A.8.2, A.8.4, C.8.1, C.8.2, C.8.3

B.  Purpose: To review chapter seven and read chapter eight in order to prepare students for next activity.

 

II. Objectives: Students will review happenings of chapter seven, and discuss happenings of chapter eight.

 

III. Procedures

A.     Materials Needed: copy of the book The Outsiders, reading guide, overhead projector and overhead markers.

B.     Anticipatory Set: Teacher will begin class by allowing any volunteers to present their essays and then choosing rest of students to present essays.

C.     Lesson Activities: Class will begin by volunteers presenting their essays, and then, as teacher chooses, the rest of the students presenting. After presentations students will hand in activity six along with final copies of essay. After papers have been turned in reading guide questions from chapter seven will be discussed. After questions have been discussed a plot log (see lesson one) for chapter seven will be completed. After plot log has been completed teacher will read aloud, while students follow along in their books, chapter eight stopping for any questions or unfamiliar words. After chapter eight is finished the

D.    Culminating Activity:  Students should complete plot log for chapter eight for homework.

 

IV. Closure: Reading guide questions for chapter eight will be discussed. At this time students may ask any questions about activities done in class, the novel, or the homework assignment.
