Late Night Ladies- Published in Aquilae Stilus 1999

Sad-haired women
Smaller hopes, bigger wrinkles
Heavy jewelry, extra hips
Their vinyl claws
Tracing a tumbler rim
Over-painted eyes and lips
Laughinglongingwatchingwaiting
The twenty-two year old boy
Sidles closer
Her wink and words and pinch
Send him scurrying.
Her frozen smile whispers,
"Five dollars if I can keep you."
