Rabbit Terminology
Doe: Female rabbit.

Buck:  Male rabbit.

Kit:  Baby rabbit.

Kindle:  Act and process of doe giving birth.


Palpate:  Feeling doe's lower abdoimin for fetal development.


Breed:  Mate


Nestbox:  Box used by breeders for does to give birth in.

Junior: Rabbit who is under 6 months of age.

Senior:  Rabbit above 6 months of age.

Sexing:  Determine whether rabbit is a male or female (doe or buck). Usually first determined as young kits.

Show:  Take rabbit to a sanctioned area where other rabbits are judged and awarded legs if the rabbit meets breed standards.

Leg: Winnings at a rabbit show. Legs can be one from these areas: BOB, BOV, BIS, and BOS (basic winnings, there are others)

Herd:  Rabbits used in show and/or breeding stock.

Cull: Remove undisirable animals from the herd.

Sport:  Buck used for breeding purposes only; is not show quality.

Brood:  Doe used for breeding purposes only; is not show quality

Fryers, Broilers:  Rabbits raised specifically for meat purposes. Most commonly New Zealands, Flemish Giants, and Californian breeds,
