| Biography Katie Skilling is a folk - pop/rock musician and songwriter, hailing from the city of Leicester in England, UK. She is the latest acoustic artist to cause a stir in the city's thriving and increasingly populated music scene. Still just 18 years old, Katie has been performing for almost 3 years and has been writing songs since the age of 10- now with over 100 self- penned songs under her belt. Her live perfomances are met with rapturous applause- as demonstrated most recently, when Katie was chosen to represent her city in a national new music festival at the famed De Montfort Hall- Yet, the singer still retains a completely modest attitude. In addition to singing and playing acoustic guitar, Katie also tackles shakers, tambourine, drums and harmonica. In June 2003 Katie independantly released her first EP- a four track offering titled "In Silence". Combining her stunning, hard hitting vocals with soothing harmonies and beautiful acoustic guitar melodies, "In Silence" certainly made an impact..." I was so impressed with the CD In Silence. Four very powerful tracks, beautifully written and extremely well performed" - taken from the Katie Skilling message boards. Taking inspiration from a range of artists, including- Alanis Morrisette, The Eagles, Jessica Harp, Joni Mitchell, The Rolling Stones, Admiral Twin, Michael Jackson, The Bealtes, Hanson and Nora Jones- Katie's acousitc folk, rock/pop style is fused with country and jazz tinges. After posting a clip of the song "52nd Street" from the "In Silence" CD on this website, Katie began drawing much interest from internet fans worlwide, in addition to her local fan base. Having already extended her gig roster to include areas outside her home town, Katie is currently in discussion with legendary venue The Cavern in Liverpool, (the famed birthplace of The Beatles) with regards to gigs. She has also reached out as far as Oklahoma in the United States with shows. No doubt Katie's huge passion and talent for music will be taking her onto bigger and better things very soon. |
