Published on Berryvikings.com on November 2006 Cross Country: Success at Region Leads to NAIA NationalsNov. 7, 2005 MOUNT BERRY, Ga….Berry College’s men’s and women’s cross country teams will both compete at the NAIA National Championship on Nov. 19. The Vikings received automatic bids after winning the Region XIII championship on their home course this past weekend. The men’s team will compete in their fourth consecutive national meet after finishing 14th in 2004. The women’s team will try to better their 28th place finish of 2004, on their second consecutive national appearance. The men’s and women’s teams also won the Southern States Athletic Conference Championship which was scored simultaneously with the region meet. The teams’ successes were joined by many individual honors including Head Coach Paul Deaton being named the NAIA Region XIII Coach of the Year for both the women’s and men’s teams. The following Lady Vikings earned First Team All-Region and All-Conference honors: Becky Ament (Individual Champion), Doran Mabry, Nicole Degner, and Laurie Cook. Tyler Moss and Lynn Roney were also named to the Second Team All-Region, and Moss also received All-Conference honors. The men’s team had several individuals recognized for their achievements. Region Champion Ben Krichko was joined by David Kawa, Ryan McClay, Luke Godleski and Chris Rodriguez on the being named First Team All-Region and SSAC All-Conference. Ryan Harrison was also named to the Second Team All-Region. The Vikings will compete in a field of 28 teams along with individual qualifiers at the national meet.
