Mytilene: First Impressions |

These are all the kids from our study abroad- well, almost all. Front row, from left: Mandy, Rachel, Sarah, Marcie, Amanda, Kara, Jaime. Back row: Jenn, Dana, me, Laura. The missing kid is Jason. |

This is what Mytilene looks like from above. It will be a reference point for many things. The castle (Kastro, in Greek) is on the green part jutting out into the water. The main harbor is the most central one. See it below. |

Standing at the central harbor, on the left in the above picture, looking out. |

From the top in the above picture, looking across the main harbor, towards the main downtown area of Mytilene. This is a bunch of cafeneons and shops, as well as a gigantic church. The street behind these buildings is Ermou, the market street, named after Hermes, the god of trade. |

The main harbor again, but this time at night. Same church, just from farther out along the far side of the harbor, this was taken from near where the BIG boats come in (see picture above). |

From here, it looks like the harbor is all closed in. It baffled us for a while, but then we finally found that picture above to clear things up for us. The lil white building on the right is a restaurant but we didn't eat there because its all old fishermen and its rude for women (even Greek ones) to go there. |

Basically the same shot as above, but at night. Its pretty. |

To get to our lodging place, we had to walk up a hill. This is a view from our walk. That tall thing is the bell tower of a church. We also walked by some HUGE gorgeous mansions-- more on that later! |

On our second day in Greece, classes began. From our classroom, we could see the castle, so Amanda, Jenn, Kara and I decided to explore. We walked off and found tons of flowers and prettiness. |

As we walked up to it, some Greek dudes started yelling at us- Since we don't speak Greek, we kinda stopped. Apparently, this was the backside, and we couldn't get in here. We later discovered you have to pay to get in. Oops. |

This is the far side of Mytilene, also the poorer side. Its super cool looking from afar. This is the ancient harbor. Our last dinner as a Study Abroad group took place here (that's later in the presentation). |

Well, this is our beach. Greece has very few sandy beaches. Who knew? Didn't stop us from being there almost daily. The rocks hurt to lie on, and to walk on, but we didn't care. The Greeks laughed at us because it wasn't "summer" yet.. haha. See Turkey in the background? SWEET. |
