Comprehension Questions

These questions can all be answered from pages 14-23. Try to answer them without going back to the book, but if you do need help then use the book.

  1. How did Agamemnon insult Apollo?  What does Apollo do if he does not return her?
  2. What conclusion can you draw from Achilles speech? How do you think he feels?
  3. Why is Zeus going to help the Trojans? What does he think of Agamemnon? How do you know this?
  4. Why did Odysseus attack Thersites?
  5. What words are used on page 20 to let you know how many warriors there were?
  6. The leaders made a treaty. What two men were to fight? Why was the whole real fight really just between these two men? Why was Menelaus angry with Paris?
  7. What do you predict will happen during the duel? What makes you think this?

** Are you keeping some track of the events in the story to work on your time line? If not, this would be a good time to go back and start it. You should write down some key events that are happening, and the order in which they happen. Remember, you do not have to have actual dates.

** Are you keeping some track of which side each of the main characters are on? Can y9ou see who is related by blood or marriage? If not, this would be a good time to go back and start it. You might want to take a piece of paper and divide it in half and have one side for the Trojans and one side for the Greeks. This is just an idea. You can make it however you think it will work best for you (maybe a web?)
