.....on Death Row

I was locked up in my cell

With only one more day to go

Time was drawing near

I was waiting on death row...

I do not  know what I did

To cause this fate so cruel

My whole life I've been so faithful

Never breaking  laws nor rules.

I'll never see another sunset

Nor watch a sunrise glow

I can only see cement and bars

"Cause I'm waiting on death row.

Tomorrow is the day they set

To end my life so dear

They say they're overcrowded

And my cell is needed here.

So come tomorrow morning

They'll take me down below

They'll have that lethal needle

My time is over on death row.

I hear footsteps coming to my cell

And as they unlock the door

A couple told the warden

"That's the one we're  looking for."

I overheard them talking

How fortunate that they be

But when the lady led me out

I knew the lucky one was me.

I'll be so loving in their care

And  somehow I'll  let them know

I'm the happiest dog around

"Cause they saved me from death row.
