~~ Forgive and Forget ~~

When I reflect upon the pain you've caused

That left scars upon my heart

I've tried so hard to forgive you

But the pain is tearing me apart.

The Good Lord says to "forgive"

And I think I've done that part

But still the memories linger on

The "forget" has yet to start.

I know that time will ease the pain

Of all that I've been through

And all that really matters is.....

Your love for me and mine for you.

I don't know how long "forget" will take

Will it completely leave my mind?

Or will it linger on for years

When little things remind?

Dear Lord help me to put this thing

Upon a shelf to rest

And make the smiles outshine the tears

So I'll be no more obsessed.
