She sat upon the rocks and watched

Overlooking the valley so deep

For across the way, on the other side

Was a love that made her heart weep.

She was an Indian maiden of an ancient tribe

Little Snow Dove was her name

An Indian brave called Flaming Arrow

Was the one that her heart had claimed.

Forbidden meetings in the dark of night

Was all that could forever be

For her brave was already chosen

To wed Night Cloud , was her destiny.

She sat so quiet in the cool night air

Sending signals of her love

Just to be with Flaming Arrow

Was all that she ever thought of.

She"d been to consult with the medicine man

How her future she could change

But her parents had already pledged

Her marriage was therefore arranged.

There was no turning back from a promise made

Nearly eighteen years ago

Two fathers decided the fate

For when their children were grown.

So they settled for a few stolen moments

When that mountain he would climb

They cherished what  pleasure they had

Until they could meet the next time.

Her marriage day was upon her

It came time for her to wed

She couldn't bear what lay before her

She choose to run away instead.

Down the mountain and through the valley

To be by Flaming Arrow's side

Then she tried to swim the river

She hadn't known it was so wide.

She was halfway across the water

When she could swim no more

She just let herself drift under

To be at peace forever more.

Flaming Arrow hurried to the river

To save her from sure death

But when he reached the halfway point

He too, took his last breath.

Flaming Arrow and Little Snow Dove

Had finally found the way

To the Happy Hunting Grounds above

Together they went that day.
