KATHY MARKS, LCSW-C
Obesity and Morbid obesity have desvistating effect to he or she who struggles with wieght issues.  Significantly over-weight individuals are negatively affected socially, emotionally, physiologically.  Diseases and disorders that commonly found in overweight people include Type II Diabeted, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, athritis, changes in the female cycles.  Many well meaning doctrs will tell you that you just have to eat less and excersize more .   Easier said than done.

Many people who are dealing with obesity feel like they have done everything under the sun; including fad diets, liquid meal substitution, Weight Watchers, Jennu Craig...the list could go on.

While the above listed programs do not help the majority of the patients, they continue to run very motivating advertisement, often with the disclaimer in small letters, "Results not typical."

Many of us who are significanly overweight may have tried dozens of the type as mentioned above.  Some had some success with a particular diet only to watch in horror as the weight came back on in strength, and often the rebound weight gain is more than the initial starting weight.  That "roller-coaster" can wreak havoc with one's self esteem, self image, and one's body.  Don't give up.  There is help.
