Piura, Peru - Thanksgiving 2003

To those that helped me out: thanks for your contribution! You helped make 70 children in the villages of Coscomba and Coscombita very happy. I spent a few afternoons throughout the week buying gifts and getting ready for the party. On Saturday we drove out to Coscomba where 4 women were almost done preparing the food. First, all sorts of creations were made with paper (airplanes, boats, hats...). Then, we had contests to see which kids would win the 20 soccer and volleyballs (hula-hoop contests, how many continuous kicks with the soccer balls, relays...). Next, there was food...the pictures tell how much it was enjoyed. At the end, each kid received a bag of gifts: a dictionary, a reading book of fables or fairy tales, a toy (trucks, dolls, cars, tea sets, musical instruments, blocks...), crayons and pencils.

Throughout the week I also helped out with delivering food, sheets and blankets, translating letters, and hanging out with friends. It was sad to leave, and it has been rough sitting in a cubicle all week.

Here are some other photos I took (unless I am in the picture):
