AUTOBIOGRAPHY
Teaching is a career I have dreamed of achieving since I was a small child. I used my little sister back then as a pretend student. Now as I grow older, I realize that I am closer to making my dream a reality. I have had several teachers in my past that have made such an important impact on my life. They guided me through trying times and helped me reach my full potential. I would like to give that knowledge to other children in return. I believe that there is more to teaching than assigning homework and reciting facts and dates. I want to share information with children in exciting and interesting new ways. I also believe that the most important gift you can give a child is knowledge.
I have had some teaching experience. I was employed at a day care center near my home for almost one year. My class consisted of about twelve three-year-olds. The children learned such things as the alphabet, numbers, shapes, and colors. It was a joyous experience seeing their little faces light up as they began to learn these basic skills. I have also substitute taught at the local high school where I live. I did not have as much of an opportunity to actually teach these children, but I still enjoyed being in the classroom environment. Substitute teaching was an educational experience for me. I learned how to have more patience while at the same time still being firm with the children. I think all of these experiences will help me when I finally get into my own classroom. I believe it has made me more confident in knowing some of what I can expect and also that there are some things that only time can teach you.
I attended all grades, first through twelfth, in the Wills Point Independent School District. I graduated from high school with honors from Wills Point High School. Afterward, I attended Trinity Valley Community College in Terrell, Texas for two years. While attending Trinity Valley I took all of my basic, freshman level classes. I also joined the honor society there for community colleges, Phi Theta Kappa. I then transferred to Texas A&M University-Commerce. While at Commerce I have joined Alpha Chi, an honor society for universities and have recently made the Presidents Scholar list. I am currently working to achieve a bachelor?s degree in middle school education, specializing in the field of science. I chose to specialize in science because it was my favorite subject in school and an area that has always interested me. I am particularly interested in the areas of Earth science and anatomy. I am passionate in learning more about the forces of nature and how the human body works.
I have lived in Wills Point, Texas, all of my life. It is a small town about sixty miles east of Dallas. I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Bryan, for four years. We have a three year old son named Hunter. I am currently a member of the Texas Army National Guard. I work with families of soldiers who are deployed all across the country. I like to travel and see interesting new things. I also love scrap booking. I like putting pictures together in photo albums and decorating them in creative ways. Someday I hope to be involved in putting my school?s year book together, so I can share my love of pictures with other children.
