Miramichi, NB is the city that both Chris and Kathleen grew up in. It has a population of just over 18,000 people and a pretty thorough Wikipedia entry.

Transportation
We are fortunate that Miramichi is one of the few cities left in New Brunswick that is accessible by train. If you are traveling from Moncton, Halifax, or anywhere else on the Via Passenger line you may want to explore that option as the train station is very conveniently located - close to the church and Chris and Kathleen's houses (and not far from some downtown hotels on the Newcastle side). Note: the train does not run Eastward (toward Halifax) on Wednesday, including the day after the wedding, the 31st. It does not run Westard (toward Miramichi/Montreal from Halifax) on Tuesdays, but it does on the day of the wedding (the 30th). I am sad because it would have been fun to have lots of us on the train going back to Halifax together. Perhaps there will be enough people around for a Miramichi NYE?
Via Rail - You will have to click on "Other Stations" to choose Miramichi.
The train station also serves as the bus station. Bus routes and schedules for Acadian Lines can be found here.

If you are flying in or out, you will likely want to fly into Moncton or Halifax, although there are flights in and out of Fredericton too.

Driving: Miramichi is 1.5 hours away from Moncton, 2 hours away from Fredericton, 3 hours from Saint John, and about 4.5 hours away from Halifax. Take Highway 8 or 11 and follow the signs to Miramichi! :)

Taxis: Although Miramichi is not very big population-wise, it is spread out quite far geographically. Our wedding and reception are about a 10-15 minute drive apart from each other, and you may find yourself partying the night(s) away quite far from your accommodation! Here are some taxi services to help you get around once you're in the city.
Foran's: 622-1632 | Discount: 778-1113 (Chatham), 622-3303 (Newcastle) | Dutcher's: 622-2788 | K & D: 773-4345 | Rick's Taxis: 773-2546 (advertised as 24-hour, with advance bookings available) | Gorman's Taxi: 773-5501 (Chatham), 773-6312 (Douglastown), 622-5162 (Newcastle) (advertised as 24 hours, vans available, delivery service and vehicle pick-up available) | Leo's: 624-7132 - my personal favourite as their cars are always nice and warm in the winter!
The ceremony is being held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Parish (370 Newcastle Boulevard) - Newcastle side of town (same as the train and bus station).
The reception and dance will be at the Rodd Miramichi River Inn (1809 Water Street) - Chatham side of town.
Other important locations will be noted once more arrangements have been made! :)
The site of the reception and dance, the Rodd Inn, has 80 guest rooms and we will be reserving a block of them for the convenience of our guests. However, you may wish to look into other arrangements! Trip Advisor has a number of reviews on hotels in Miramichi, including some negative and positive reviews of the Rodd.
The Rodd will probably be quite busy and will book up in advance of the wedding, so if you really want to stay there, please reserve soon! The number for the Rodd is 506.773.3111 (or 1.800.565.7633 toll-free) and if you tell them you're staying for our wedding (just give our last names), you'll get a discounted rate of $120/room/night + tax. If you have a CAA membership you will get an even bigger discount.
Other hotel options
If you read some of those travel reviews, a lot of people say that there is nothing to do in Miramichi! Though you might not see much going on at first, if you know where to look there is plenty to do in Miramichi.

And of course....
Friends and family coming from out of town - please let us know how long you are planning on being in Miramichi for and we will try to organize a few informal events to get everyone together! One of the greatest things about weddings is having a lot of fun people that you really care about in one place. I would hate to waste those valuable moments together by sending you off to a movie. Many of the guests will be from Miramichi and I am sure we will be planning all sorts of get togethers in the midst of the pre-wedding chaos! Most notably the inevitable Black Horse night on the 27th! :D Please don't be shy to tell us if you would like some help in planning your trip.Home
