It was all green and grey: the sky, the road, the leaves, the water...
even our faces had lost their natural color in the dim of the evening.
It must've been six years ago, maybe a bit more. I was eleven. We needed
to be out of the house to stay out of the way of prospective buyers.
Had to take the dog with us, too.
We sat under the picnic pavillion to shelter from the cold, cold
grey rain. Outside the pavillion was that green-grey blur.
We ate our dinners there: cold bologna sandwiches, doritos,
and a juice box (a rare treat).
