Greets! I'm Mathieu. I'm a carpenter's son. Big lofty position. I'm 16, but I'm apprenticed to my father on a special license from the governor. I've already got a nice little savings account. Not exactly a princess's dowry, but it'll be more than enough to let me look after myself before too long.

      Carpentry's not really a bad trade. It's kind of looked down on, but that's just because it's hard work. People here have a problem with callouses, but somebody's got to do it. That's why Peter and I get along so well. We're both workers.

      There are plenty of things I'd rather be doing, though. Astronomy is a passion of mine. On a clear night, if you can get to the top of one of the stronger trees - preferrably a 'cone tree - you can still see some of the brighter constellations . Jules and I go up sometimes. In the old days, they lit the whole world at night like little fireflies afloat in the heavens.

      I like to be with my female, too. She's so beautiful. And so fun. She doesn't mind me being younger at all, either.
