Roman Industrial settlement built at Wilderspool on the River Mersey
The name Patten dominates the industrial and social history of Warrington from the turn of the century to the late 19th century.
The family originated in Chelmsford Essex about 1119.
They realised the importance of the river mersey and used it as a key distribution piont for inland trade enabling copper to be brought by boat from Ireland,Cornwall and Anglesey to the familys smelting works.
The Patten's fortunes were largely built on the infamous Slave Trade as thier work produced copper bangles traded for slaves in Africa
In 1086 The Domesday book described Warrington as "Walintune",a village near the ford of the Mersey.
In 1814 Joseph crosfield establishes soap works ( Persil Soap Power )
In 1822 Old Billy .said to be the world's oldest horse .dies aged 62
( according to the guiness book of records)
In 1855 The largest iron ship ever built to date_-The Tayleur-launched at Bank Quay.

This was the day the IRA planted a bomb in a waste bin outside Mcdonals in bridge Street killing these 2 lovely children Tim & Jonathan they were out shopping for there Mum's Mothers Day presents .
Many floral tributes for the 2 boy's were left in Bridge Street .Tim was 12 years old Jonathan was just 3
