Great Big Sea....What can one say about the best band in the world. Hailing from Newfoundland, Great Big Sea has made the way for a better world. The band has a unique sound that combines the traditional music of their homelands and their own sound of being alive. Great Big Sea has always been known to deliver an awesome show that won't ever disappoint you. The energy and life is incredible. Now it's time to meet the guys...

Alan Doyle, a fun lovin' Newfie known for his awesome voice, silly stories, and incredible hair. Alan contributes his talents for singing, song writing, and playing guitars, bouzouki, mandola, and the mandolin. The band wouldn't be complete without him. You know what I'm talking about...everyone who is indeed obsessed with him like they should be knows anyway! :)

I myself had the pleasure of meeting him after a show in Pittsburgh, PA. And by golly, he lives up to how I see him. Nice to look at, fun to talk to, and listen to. I tell ya, I could sit around and listen to him read the phone book. I especially loved the concern in his voice when he said "Really?" when my friend mentioned that we enjoyed the show (not about enjoying the show, cause that would be goofy!) but had trouble getting/didn't get tickets to their earlier show in March, because of some geeky people at the local National Record Mart. Alan is also one darn comfy man to be leaning into. We had our picture taken with him and yes, that's just fun.

< Next we have Sean McCann. Sean also has an awesome but different voice that is the higher of the 4. He too is a song writer. Though a bit puppy looking from some pictures, he, like Alan, is one of the nicest people in the world. In my opinion, he's a bit different from Alan, which makes them a killer combination of guys on stage. From concerts I've been to, he tends to talk less but is just as much fun to watch. Sean contributes by singing, and playing the guitar, bodhran, and other percussion insturments.
At that lovely night upon which I met Alan, I also met Sean. They all of course signed my guitar, but Sean did it with the most thoroughness....to give you an idea why...here's how it went...
Sean: What's your name?
Me: Huh? (like a geek, in my dazed and happy state)
Sean: your name?
Me: (like a silly fruit cake) hahha..oh! Katie...
Sean: C or K?
Me: (didn't think anyone spelled it with a C) ...K!
Sean: K....Y or IE?
Me: (delighting in how right he wants to make it) IE!
But yes, he got it right, but still...I was confused...heck still am. Though I could care less whether he spelled my name right or wrong...He could have wrote Blah blah Blah, love Sean, and I would have been a happy camper.

Darrell Power! What a silly guy. He too adds color to Great Big Sea. Though he looks like a geek he's a really awesome guy, just like all the others. Darrell is also vocals, and his specialty is the bass guitar. He's awesome on that thing! Much better than I can play anyway, considering that I don't play any guitar of any kind.

Of all of them, I'd say that Darrell has the most interesting expressions to see during a show. He really gets into it and comes out looking really interesting if not humorous. Darrell is one fun person as well! When he signed my guitar, he wrote "Strum here" with and arrow pointing at the strings. That just makes me laugh. Just in case I ever try to play the thing, I'll at least know where the strings are thanks to Darrell! Have I mentioned that my guitar is a work of art, not much of an insturment? well, It's true, It's painted on and the strings are nearly immovable with paint. And of course when they attempted playin the guitar with the neat "paint job" they'd all cringe and laugh at my "interesting tuning". Darrell was no disappointment. He played with it and said something goofy about Santa Fe. It was most humorous.

Last But certianly Not least, Bob Hallett. Bob I'd say, by far, impresses me the most with his talent for playing many many insturments. Not only does Bob sing, but he plays the button accordians, fiddle, tin and low wistles, bouzouki, concertina, mandolin and probably just about everything else on earth. As I've observed, he's kind of a quiet guy, but what I've heard him say has been in a lovely and neato voice, just like the singing of course.

Though Bob may be the one who's mysterious and confuses me the most, he can't hide the fun nature that all of them share. One can see that he is a wild one too by simply listening to "The Old Black Rum" a few times!! Again, The band wouldn't be Great Big Sea without Bob Hallett and his amazing talents! Just watching him get into it on the stage too is just amazing.

Of course, This is Just My personal take on the guys and the music. Wanna Find out more?? Of course you do! You can check out their real bios and information on the Offical Great Big Sea Website. The other way to learn a lot and meet some great people in the process check out the Online Kitchen Party. This is the official fan message board. Upon which many great people come to play.

This is a picture from the incident I am referring to in these descriptions of the guys...I'm the one on Alan's left, My friend Jamie's on his right.
