Full Name: Kat (Katelynn) Hawthorne

Age: 16
Hair: Blond
Eyes: Hazel
Height: 5’6”

Hawthorne (Brother)
Powers
Kat’s mutant ability is a rather unique healing method. Kat’s
fingernails became increasingly hard and sharp with the onset of her
mutant powers. When she has pierced another with these nails, she can
draw out sickness and injury in the form of negative energy. Poisons and
diseases can be completely cured by her ability, though wounds are more
difficult. A paper cut could be closed without a problem, broken bones
would mend significantly faster, but her power could only buy a mortally
wounded individual a few extra minutes to seek medical attention. Once
she has healed another, she must then either hold the negative energy
within herself, causing incredible discomfort and pain, or release the
energy outward, causing an ill feeling in those nearby and potentially
killing weaker living things such as plants.
Personality
Despite the change in locale, Kat still shows many signs of the
ignorance that she was raised around. Since realizing that she is in
fact a mutant, the things that her community regarded with fear, she now
views with curiosity and innocence. She has every bit of sweetness you’d
expect from a country gal. Although the schools in her hometown were
also particularly poor, Kat is indeed quite bright; she simply still has
a lot to learn if she wants to catch up with others both academically
and socially. Nevertheless, her inquisitive nature and natural
motivation drive her to work hard at overcoming any obstacle, assuming
she can overcome the awe of being outside her little town.
History
Raised on a farm in an extremely rural area in northern New York, Kat
had only heard about mutants through the news and what neighbors said.
When her own powers manifested, their passive nature made them easily
over looked and no one realized that she was a mutant until a scuffle
with her sometimes bully of an older brother led to their accidental
use. The sudden healing of his cold and her rapid acquisition of
symptoms could have been overlooked as well, had her stroll to get some
air not lead to the shriveling and dying of one of the family’s fields
of corn. As much as her family loved and doted on the young farm girl,
they were not immune to the ignorance of their community. Her parents
drove her to Xavier’s school that very night, leaving her at the gates
and not looking back.
Kat’s time at Xavier’s was
interesting, as always seems to be the case with the school. She
excelled in her studies, working immensely hard to overcome the poor
education of her past. She also received combat training and field
experience with the X-Men. Most of all, her understanding and control
over her powers developed, as did her acceptance of mutants. Kat also
met and fell in love with another healer at the school, a Russian boy
named Nikolas. Although their romance was idyllic, Nikolas’ personal
life was plagued by demons, allowing him to be manipulated by the
villain Cameron Hodge. In the end, Nikolas defied Hodge, but his choices
nearly cost him his life, leaving him in a permanent coma that even
Kat’s powers could not alleviate. Devastated, Kat was sent to spend a
year abroad studying at Muir Island where Nikolas would also be
receiving his care.
In time, Kat made peace with her loss. Now, she had
returned to Xavier’s, happy to return to the place she considers home. |
