Pictures of our River Boat - the Alhagie
Here is the Alhagie - the boat that took us upriver.  It holds 15 passenegers and about 3 crew.   Probably about 55 feet long and 12 wide.   We slept under the canopy on the top deck, underneath mosquito nets which they hang at night - giving some visual, if no audible privacy.  The canopy was very welcome during the day, as the sun was very hot and we would have been well fried without it!
Here's a view from the stern while we were docked in a village.  The captain steers from the top platform - you can just see the tiller at the far left, controlled by a rope.  Kate is getting ready to re-board.
For those interested in boat motors (and I know there's at least one - Jay!) we were propelled up the river by two 40 HP outboards, mounted through the hull.  Note that steering is done via a separate tiller and rudder.  Estimate we cruised at about 10 knots.
Here's our excellent cook, taking his turn at the helm of the Alhagie.  Given all the sunbathing Tuubaabs in front of him, its a wonder we didn't hit anything!.
Here's the view from the bow deck looking back towards the stern.  During the day, we sat on the top deck and watched the riverbank pass by, and night we slept up there as well.  We ate meals below on the main deck.  Besides us 4 Holdsworths, there was an other VSO and his family, an APSO (Irish) volunteer and her sister, and 5 German tourists (including one 3 year old, who, however well-behaved considering, was too young to be afloat!)
Here's the view down below from the chow line.  The food was excellent, and although it was a bit tight, we had good conversation as well as good meals.  Hard to see here, but the windows on both sides were huge and open, so we got a great view even while eating!
