And spooning just for all you junkies out there. >_-*-_-*-_-*-_< Time passes in moments ... moments which, rushing past define the path of a life just as surely as they lead towards its end. How rarely do we stop to examine that path, to see the reasons why all things happen, to consider whether the path we take in life is our own making or simply one into which we drift with eyes closed. But what if we could stop, pause to take stock of each precious moment before it passes? Might we then see the endless forks in the road that have shaped a life? And, seeing those choices, choose another path? "I don't think you can know. I mean, how many different lives would we be leading if we made different choices. We ... We don't know." "What if there was only one choice and all the other ones were wrong? And there were signs along the way to pay attention to." "Mmm. And all the ... choices would then lead to this very moment. One wrong turn, and ... we wouldn't be sitting here together. Well, that says a lot." >_-*-_-*-_-*-_< She wakes up sometime in the wee hours of the morning and slips into his room. She stands above his bed and looks down at him; he wakes just then and looks at her. He is about to say something, but she shakes her head and begins silently taking off her clothes. He watches her do this, and when she slips into the bed beside him he takes off his own boxers and t-shirt as well. She places her hands on his chest and electricity rushes through them at her touch, as if a circuit has been completed. She feels his hands on her breasts, stroking her, and she begins to feel an ache in her center. He rolls over, his smooth skin covering her completely as a living blanket. She responds, arching up against him, and feels herself moaning low. He starts covering her face, neck, shoulders with little kisses until she stops him by wrapping her fingers in his hair, and pulls his head up so his lips meet her own. His lips are warm and soft and strong, and . . . oh! his tongue can do the most amazing things inside her mouth, all sweet and spicy. She twines her own tongue around his and lets out a soft hum that vibrates through both their bodies. One of his hands moves down along her belly, tracing swirling lines farther and farther down her torso. The ache inside her grows stronger and resonates up her spine, almost making her dizzy. His other hand teases her nipple, twisting it gently to make it stand up hard before he switches to the other one, frustrating her to greater heights. She wraps her legs around his hips and bucks up against him, feeling his hardness pressing against her center. He kisses her again, then she feels his warm wet mouth again at her breast, suckling and pulling at her. She gasps at this and can feel him grow harder. Unwilling to wait, she reaches down and takes his length into her soft hand, stroking and guiding him toward herself. He lets out a soft grunt and she almost laughs at this, but is silenced by his sudden stroke down and into her filling her and filling her and she can see stars in her vision now and she thinks she is going to explode if this goes on any more but she wants it to anyway. He slowly starts moving in and out, setting up a rhythm that she soon matches with her hips, and he moves his mouth to match his strokes with his tongue. She moves faster, matching his speed. He lifts his head, gasping for air, but does not slow down; he takes this moment to look down at her face, twisted beautifully in concentration and pleasure. The sight of her pleasure lifts him over the edge, he moans into her neck as he releases hot into her. She feels this and comes, too, her inner muscles squeezing him tight and warmly. She can feel the stars exploding in her center and filling her vision, and he can see them now, too. She wraps herself tighter around him as they come down together, slowly and softly landing in the sticky bed. He sighs softly and turns to spoon against her, wrapping an arm over her. She moves closer to him, if that is possible, and hums something contented into his shoulder. He makes a halfhearted attempt to pull the covers over her, but they are laying on top and neither wants to move. So he lets it go, since she has already fallen asleep anyway. Exhausted, he follows her. >_-*-_-*-_-*-_< Scully left at about five in the morning and was glad she had done so. It was awkward enough leaving without explanations while he was still asleep, never mind the awkwardness of having to wake up and go to work alongside him. She needed to have a little time to herself, to think and to reestablish her morning routine in her own home. There would be time enough for awkwardness when they got to work; sitting alone in the basement would force the subject. What would she say? What did she even want to say? Scully thought about this as she drove back to her apartment. The weekend had inspired Scully, slapped her in the face and asked her where her life was going. And without a suitable answer she had determined to give herself one. She had sat down Monday night with a bowl of ice cream, resolved to not get up from her chair until she knew something. Recalling her words to Daniel, she had realized that the life she didn't choose was one she could still choose if she allowed herself to. There was nothing preventing her from achieving happiness but her misguided feelings that she was not allowed to, the idea that Fate chose her future without her own influence. Feeling that she had been inexorably pulled against her will, Scully had failed to realize that she wanted what she was fated to have. Fate had pulled her toward Mulder and their work - it was the closest friendship she had ever had, with an understanding between them that, she realized, was unlike any other. And admitting this necessity, Scully gave in and let herself be pulled. Now as she moved about her apartment she planned what she would say to Mulder when she met him at work. She didn't want to tell him that what they had done was a mistake, because she didn't believe it was one. It was a natural development and deepening of a close friendship and something that she hoped she would never find cause to regret. Something she wanted to continue. Getting undressed, Scully realized she couldn't find the pantyhose she had been wearing last night. They were probably kicked under Mulder's bed, she thought. She wondered if he would find them; probably not - it was unlikely he ever looked under there. Scully didn't pause long enough to think about it, figuring she'd get them back later, and got in the shower. >_-*-_-*-_-*-_< Mulder didn't wake up until just after seven, having forgotten to set his alarm. Scully wasn't next to him, but he really hadn't expected her to be. It had been too much like a dream last night - perfect, but not a word had been said by either of them. He rushed to get ready for work, at the same time trying to figure out what he would say to her. Her change of heart had been so sudden that he wasn't sure if she had really meant it. He had to figure out something to say to her to make her stay, without his seeming desperate. Something to tell her how he felt without making a fool of himself if she had changed her mind. Which he desperately hoped she wouldn't do - she had followed him through thick and thin for the past seven years, so why should she leave him now? Especially since *she* had come to *him* last night. Last night had changed not changed a thing, only made it all better. He was addicted to her now, to the smell and touch and taste of her, and he wanted more. He loved her too much to give it all up now, but a twisted feeling in his gut told him he would if she asked it of him. So he hoped she wouldn't. The worry still sat heavy in his stomach all the way to work. So when he got to the office he made two cups of coffee, one black and one with cream. He didn't put his feet up on the desk, and he waited. At 8:02 the door opened and Scully stepped in. And smiled. Life was going to be all right.
