Descendancy: Prologue A WIP by Kate Lesky capnkate88@hotmail.com ******** PROLOGUE ******** I woke up in a strange hospital room with an ache in my head and a tube coming out of the hole in my throat. I remembered being pushed down the stairs by Krycek and Marita, and promptly swore to myself not to let them live out the week. Even if I didn't hate them for personal reasons, they were a threat to the project. It's too bad - Marita was a decent lay. An obscenely cheerful nurse came in to check my vitals. "You'll be just fine, sir. A neighbor found you at the bottom of the stairs and called 911. Apparently some of your friends have arranged for you to be transferred to a private facility tomorrow." I couldn't say anything because of the tube, so I stared at her uselessly. She smiled back, and left after checking my IVs. I wanted to talk to my "friends," let them know about our two latest traitors. And I needed to get out of the hospital; it wasn't safe to be so unprotected from all the people who wanted to kill me. A man as important as I shouldn't be left unprotected in a hospital; I had better things to do. The date for Colonization was apporaching rapidly, and my associates were not pleased with the lack of recent progress. The rebel forces had interfered with so much of our planning that it was now a possibility that the date would arrive without adequate defense for humanity against the virus. As I was contemplating this, the Bounty Hunter entered. <> I could hear him in my head. <>I thought to him. <> <> Thoughts rushed through my head. The only person with the right DNA to make a hybrid unneccessary was Fox. <> <> <> <> He turned around and pulled the tube out of my respirator, then left the room. No alarms sounded from the machinery; I would have welcomed the nurse. As I grew dizzier, my last thoughts were that I only wanted to protect my son; I only wanted to protect humanity from oblivion. The room bacame fuzzy as I berated myself for not saving the world, saving my descendants.
