Catherine studied the white card in her hand, as if expecting the answer to magically appear on it. Light caught the gold trim as she read the words for the hundredth time. Ms Catherine Willows and Guest.

She could turn up at the wedding on her own, she knew some of Cheryl's friends, had met her brother a couple of times, was bound to be someone she could pass the time with at the reception. She didn't need a man on her arm to make her complete.

The problem was she did want a man on her arm, wanted someone to spend time with out side work as well as spending her working hours with him.

Who to ask? Who did she want? And not just for company at a friend's wedding.

Both men were friends, both could be more.

She imagined what a dinner date with each one would be like.

He would turn up early for the date, make her laugh from the moment she opened the door, read Lindsey a bedtime story, and make them nearly late for the restaurant reservation because he had to be dragged away from making shadow puppets on her daughter's bedroom wall.

There would be romantic gestures, maybe flowers, doors held open, lots of eye contact, accidental touching where his hand lingered longer than necessary. He would suggest something like a walk past the Bellagio Fountains, and while they watched the dancing water, he would move in for a kiss. A slow romantic kiss, promising more.

More…she considered that for a moment, thinking of his half naked body in the locker room, imagining that dark skin contrasting against hers as he made love to her.

The other man would call her from his cellphone and apologise for running late and asking if they could meet at the restaurant. The conversation would be lead by her, until she found the right subject that he was passionate about, then he would become animated, his face lighting up as he spoke. They might even get as far as the desert menu before his pager went off, and the date was likely to end with them both back on duty at a crime scene.

If she was lucky, they might get through the whole date and then he'd drive her home and it would be up to her to make the first move, reach up and kiss him on lips, hope he'd respond.

Catherine flicked open her cellphone; she knew what she wanted. Who she wanted to take a chance on. She choose the number from the phone book and pressed the call button.

He answered after three rings.

"Hi," She greeted him, " I was wondering, I've been invited to a friend's wedding would you like to come with me?"

There was short pause, which seemed like an eternity.

"Sure," Grissom replied, "When is it?"
