Katahdinview provides active bait sites that are checked and baited every other day. If a site is not hitting, we will not place a hunter on it. All hunters are given their own active bait site. Because we only allow eight hunters a week, and have a large number of bait sites, a hunter always has the opportunity to move if he or she is not seeing bears. Our success rate for baits is always around a 100%. The success rate for hunters seeing bears is around 80%, with 50-60% killing bears. This area of Maine is home to some large bears (300+ pounds). However, the state average for a sow is 130 pounds, and a boar being around 180. The stands are placed roughly 15 feet up, and range from ten to forty yards away from the site. This helps Katahdinview cater to bow and rifle hunters. If you wound a bear that can not be found, our hounds will do the job. These are experienced dogs that help in the tracking and recovery of your bear.

Katahdinview also offers bear hunts with hounds. By utilizing quality hounds and high-tech tracking equipment, Katahdinview offers a very exciting hunt. This hunt is limited to three hunters a week. This keeps the group small, offering the maximum possibility for all hunters to take a bear. Our hounds are conditioned year round to make sure they are in top physical condition.
