Wowee, have discovered that the Bibliotheque Municipale de St Jean de Monts has slightly better rates than "Cyberspace"... so here's to a splurging group email. Have left Col on reception duties this morning to do the honours - he's not quite up to the cycle into St Jean again yet (more on that later...)
La vie continues really quite nicely here... we're well settled in to the ins and outs of the job (largely schmoozing with customers, running kids club, organising activities, and inspecting customers cleaning talents when they check out - the French way - you have to leave it as clean as when you checked in!!)) We are loving the lifestyle, the weather, the setting. Will make no mention of the torrential rain of the last two days, because its largely been very balmy!
We've also managed to see a good part of the Vendee Region and beyond - largely due to Linda (our boss) letting us use her car on our days off. Have managed a night away in Saumur - taking in the Chateau de Chenonceau - up to Noirmoutier, down to Sable D'Olonne (alll nice places, not expecting you to have heard of them!) and an eventful day across on L'Ile de Yeu - a wee island off the west coast where we hired a scooter for the day, then managed to spectacularly lose control of the steering (that was me at the wheel I'll admit) and end up in a ditch bruised and grazed and feeling pretty miserable. But we got the grand tour of ambulance, police and medical services, and are now just waiting to see if our insurance company wants to come to the party. And now we're just sticking to our bikes (if Col could get on his again...)
Peak season is now pretty much in full swing here now, though we have been promised it gets even crazier from quartorze Juillet weekend. The weeks are zooming by, and we are starting to plan onward travel from early September - thinking of making our way to Italy via Corica and Sardinia, then to Rome and the Amalfi Coast and across to Greece, Turkey and hopefully Egypt.
Looking forward to a few visits - the Scotch Widow contingent in September,
some Smyths perhaps late August(?), Gareth if we ever manage to get in touch
with him... and anyone keen to squeeze in our wee caravan!
