| CELEBRITY TASTEMAKER Billy: Pretty much we're just average kids who somehow got guitars and made a band Joel: Hi I'm Joel and i sing Benji: Hi I'm Benji and i play guitar and sing Billy: I'm Billy and i play guitar Paul: I'm Paul and i play bass Chris: I'm Chris and I'm tour waxer Billy: The first time we saw ourselves on tv Benji: I don't remember Billy: I remember we were in a hotel on tour with New Found Glory Paul: In New York, upstate New York Billy: In the middle of nowhere and they told us our video was gonna be on. We're talking about the old Little Things video. So we stayed up till 2 O'clock in the morning to watch it and it didn't come on that day and we were so dissapointed but the next night it actually came on and we got to see it and i think we all huddled around this tv in this crappy hotel room and saw our video. Chris: I've never seen the video Billy: Lucky you Benji: The worst video in Good Charlotte history Joel: Little Things Benji: What were we thinking? If i was sitting in a room watching tv with a girl that I really liked and that video came on I would act like I didn't know who it was Joel: She'd say "Isn't that you on there?" Benji: I'd say "No i dunno who that is" "But it says Good Charlotte right there" "I dunno they must have the thing wrong." Joel: Festival Song was directed by Mark Webb. We shot that a couple years ago at a big show in our hometown in DC. It was a big show for us. We played for like 80,000 people. Billy: My favorite part about Festival was that you know, it was just a festival in our hometown that we went to every summer and the fact that we actually got to play it this year on the main stage and we have it on tape you know, like how many people can say that, you know, they got to do the thing they've dreamed about forever and you have a really nice taped version of the whole day. So you know it was a really cool video to shoot. Joel: True dat homeboy (Festival Song video plays) Joel: Kids if you ever wanna get backstage the easiest way is to fake an injury for the medics and then you can come right backstage which always usually works. (commercial) Joel: Lifestyles of The Rich and Famous the video was directed by Bill Fishman. We shot it in LA. Billy: We came up with this idea for the Lifestyles video you know really simple and he sorta perfected it and came back with this perfect treatment Joel: It's our kinda view of the entertainment world and the rich people and we kinda laugh cause we're up here with them and we don't really feel like we fit in. And also it's kinda like we're on trial. And it's so funny cause we're on trial all the time anyways just for being Good Charlotte. (Lifestyles video plays) Benji: I do love making videos just for the fact that you get to change roles a little bit and you get to see what, you know, kind of actors and actresses go through. Paul: We love movies and film and this is the closest we can get to making our own version of a movie Joel: The video for the Anthem was shot in LA Billy: Definately the easiest probably most funnest video to make cause we didn't really have to plan anything out we just sat around and hung out and video taped it. Joel: That was Chris's first video with us Paul: We didn't really know what to expect of him but the second they played the close up of him and he did the whole thing *acts like he's rocking out with drums like Chris* that's when i knew that this guy was the shit. Joel: We literally had a barbeque you can't see it in the backyard though. We had a grill and were cooking out food. It was just a big party and we got it on tape. (The Anthem video plays) Benji: We were these kids that went through high school who used to like..nobody really accepting us or talking to us thinking we're cool, into being like Ok now you have to make a cool music video that will make girls like you Joel: And when you're not cool you can't make a cool video Benji: Yeah Joel: And you know what, none of us really, no offense guys, none of us are really that cool Paul: Hey screw you man Joel: *laughs* heeey Benji: We all just accepted our own coolness though and now I think our videos come out a little better Joel: We're more comfortable in our uncoolness Chris: But it's like cool to not be cool Billy: It's cool to piss your pants Benji: Everybody's doin it Joel: Let's do it guys ready (All groaning) Billy: Aaaahhh Yeeeaahhh *sniff sniff* (Commercial) Joel: Our album The Young and The Hopless made over a year now. It's our second major "label" album i guess Billy: You guess? it's definately the second one Joel: Yeah *laughs* Billy: Me and Paul were actually listening to the first album in the hotel last night and we were just thinking like Wow it really sounds so different than our new record. I think it was just that we were like these young kids excited to make a record and we toured for 3 years and we kinda got to learn a lot more about our instruments and music and stuff Joel: And about ourselves Billy: And it definately reflects on this record that's why everybody always says Oh we're more grown up on our second record but I really think that's the perfect way to say it about this band (The Young and The Hopeless video plays) Joel: Tell them how you feel about Dave Grohl Chris Chris: *Clears throat* well... Joel: He's got a shrine for Dave Grohl on the bus Chris: I have a shrine Joel: Lights candles Chris: Sits in the back and like every night i have to go in the back and I just Billy: Pay your homage Chris: Pay my homage and get down on my knees and I light 57 candles that are in the back and uhhh and I just chant words (all start laughing) that really don't make sense just like grunts and noises like *Makes weird noises that sound like Scooby-Doo* and I do this for 2 hours at night and then I have to urinate and defocate in my pants. (all crack up laughing) (Boys and Girls video plays) Joel: We all get paid to hang out together, travel around the world and make music and I don't think it gets any better than that Billy: I would honestly have to say that probably a good percentage of the world never get to do what they love. Most people don't get to take their hobby or their passion and turn it into a career and the fact that we get to do that is just...amazing |
