| CDUK INTERVIEW Hey guys! How dya like the UK? Billy: Im really glad to be here! Weve been before and I couldnt wait to come back! Joel: London has a snobby kinda vibe going on, its weird. But the fans are the best. The kids are cool! Dya get the chance to large it as much as yad like? Benji: Naah! I dont think anyone ever really gets the chance to party enough! Billy: Plus of course the good party towns are always the places with the good TV shows and good magazines and stuff like that, so were really busy whenever we get there. Benji: But we dont just sit in our hotel rooms, being quiet! If we have an hour or two off, were out around town! It must be wicked knowing fans worldwide love all yer songs! Joel: It is! When I was sitting in my bedroom writing them it never crossed my mind the songs would travel so far. We didnt even expect to do well in the US! Benji: Were really pleased. I always dreamed of traveling the world. Bet ya travel first class now! Billy: Oh, yeah, thats fun! No-one wants to sit beside us! Paul: Businessmen think we should sit someplace else Billy: Im like, Im sitting beside you, big guy! They dont even talk they dont even look at you! Joel: Everyone who sits next to me on a plane hates me. All I do is listen to music and look out the window, but I still annoy em. (Thinks) I dont have any bad habits, do I? Billy: You do wear airplane socks! Can ya describe a typical Good Charlotte fan? Joel: No, it could be anyone! Benji: But a lot of kids have band T-shirts on and theyre all pierced up. Its cool. Have ya any lil old laydee fans? Benji: we get all ages. In America we get 45-year-old housewives coming over to say hi! Ever been worried about what someone might say? Billy: you can be standing someplace and this dudell be lookin atcha and youll be like, This is gonna be trouble, he looks like he hates the band! Benji: But then hell come over and say, Hey, my little sister loves you guys! Can you sign something for her? Is it strange meeting people whove copied your look? Benji: I like it! It kinda makes me feel like theres something we belong to! Joel: Yeah, a little army that were breeding! You must get loadsa fan letters Joel: Yeah, usually every day I get a letter from a fan saying thank you for writing about this subject or that. I love it that songs I wrote in my bedroom are making a difference to other kids out there, kids just like me. Dya ever sneak into Good Charlottes web chatrooms? Joel: Sure, every once in a while Ill check out the site, but to be honest, Id rather hear what kids have to say, good or bad, from their own mouths. Have ya started the next album yet? Benji: Were busy touring until the end of the year, but were planning it already. Joel: Weve practically written an album of songs but we havent recorded them yet. Whats yer live show like? Paul: Its really good fun, psyched up, energetic Joel: I want people to enjoy themselves at our live shows as much as I enjoyed going to see bands like Green Day and Foo Fighters when I was a kid. Billy: Afterwards, we like to come out front to say hi. We heard ya almost caused a riot! Joel: Yeah, that night in Glasgow was insane. There was so much security and the police were called. When we left, about 2000 kids followed us down the street beating the windows. Billy: It does go mad and although we want to see the fans, sometimes the police threaten to close us down if we do in case someone gets trampled. Sounds a bit scary! Joel: It is! One time, a little girl of about 12 got her arm broken. People can get hurt. But all were trying to do is say hello and thank people for taking time to come see us. Doesnt it freak you out, getting chased? Joel: Oh, yeah, all the time! Its weird and crazy, but what are you gonna do? Run?! Chris: Hell, yeah. But if someones gonna follow you, they will! Weve been followed for hundreds of miles. Ever felt like you were in danger? Joel: Some chicks followed us once and they were totally driving like crazy you know, cutting people up, switching lanes, swerving all over the road in front of us. They were putting other peoples lives at risk, which was sooo dangerous! Chris: Yeah, but luckily their engine overheated, so they had to pull over! Joel: But then when they saw that they were losing us, they jumped back in the car and put their foot down! Finally, they were blinded by the huge cloud of smoke around the carwe left em far behind! |
