Background: Every since he looked up at the stars over the snow fields of the Canadian Rockies, Cal knew that was the place he wanted to be. His parents were never at home much. They were always away on some archeological dig on some distant planet, but they never took him with them - believing that he needed the stability of growing up in one single place. He was raised mostly by his Aunt Fiona but the young Cal would always pester his parents when they were home for tales and stories of the wonderous places they had been to. For many years Cal's passion for skiing and other winter sports was all that occupied him during the months when his parents were away. He soon mastered the slopes around Vancouver and began to do holo-skiing. He became familiar with all the best slopes around the Federation and built up his own holo-library of his favourite runs. As soon as he was able to, Cal applied to Starfleet Academy. He was an eager student. Perhaps a bit too eagar. Although Cal passed all his exams and practical tests, his instructors at the Academy realised that his inexperience in stressfull situations caused him to hesitate at crucial moments. The instructors recognised that he would grow out of this as time went by and he gained on-the-ground experience and put down some of the more spectacular accidents to pure bad luck. Increases in the Academy's insurance policy during Cal's time were almost certainly a co-incidence. Personality Profile: What Cal lacks for in experience he more than makes up for in youthful enthusiasm and a love of life. He is always filled with a sense of wonder at his first sight of something new. Cal always travels with his skiing holo-library plus his skies, poles and boots ready to try out some of the slopes for real. He is shy around women.
