| Life on Gor for a Free Woman is nebulous at best. While she is expected to command slaves, she herself may at any moment find a ko-lar around her neck and be expected to serve Free Men fully. It is a thin line that the Free Woman must walk. She cannot expect to stand taller than a Free Man, for he is a Rarius, a Warrior and superior to her in all ways. She may not argue with Him, she may not challenge him in anyway. She is only Free because Men have decided she may be so. They may change their mind at any moment. The Free Woman also must be careful not to act as a slave, for if she does, Men will consider her a slave and snap a ko-lar around her throat. This means she may not flirt with them in public, she may not flash her skin at him, she may not act in public in any manner that would make it appear to a Free Man that she would welcome his sexual attentions. If she flaunts her sexuality, the Free Men of Gor will think she is begging to be a slave, and they will happily oblige. She also must watch her tongue and show total respect to all Free Men. She is not their equal and must defer in all matters to the Free Men of Gor. To argue or challenge a Free Man is an act of disrepect and most likely will be rewarded with a ko-lar. Nor may a Free Woman engage in battle with or alongside a Free Man. She is a woman, she is weaker, physically inferior to Man. For her to think she can hold her own against any Man is a blatant insult to his skills and again, most likely will be rewarded with a ko-lar. What separates a Free Woman from a slave is a band of steel around her neck and a brand on her thigh. Otherwise, she -- like the slave -- must defer to the will of Men. She can be punished if she displeases a Free Man. She must obey orders that Free Men give her. She must at all times be respectful to Free Men, both in public and in private. Free Women are what Free Men allow them to be -- nothing else. They are in no way equal to Free Men and any attempt to act as though they are will be dealt with quickly and efficiently by the true Gorean Male. While Free Women may own slaves, they must be very careful that their actions in public with that slave do not make Free Men think that they are wanton or, in fact, enjoy sexual experiences, for to enjoy sex is to have a slave belly on Gor. Therefore, Free Women should confine their public interaction with slaves to receiving food and drink. Free Women also should be careful of commenting on any Master's sexual use of a slave. In John Norman's books, Free Women were offended by any such show of sexuality and avoided places where they would witness such things. In the Kassar South Camp, it is impossible for a Free Woman to avoid seeing slaves raped or used sexually, but they must be careful that their reaction to that in no way implies that they were excited by it. So, what is the Free Woman on Gor? She is a slave of a different sort -- a "demure" slave, who must obey her Master -- Free Man -- and must never acknowledge any sexual feelings in public. She must in no way appear to challenge a Free Man. The following set of do's and don'ts are offered as suggestions for Free Women in the Kassar South Camp. Don't � Carry weapons (the only exceptions are a small dagger made especially for Free Women and poison pins that they frequently secured within the folds of their clothing). It is acceptable for a Free Woman to keep a guard sleen at her side for protection. � Expose yourself in any unseemly manner (including your av) � Flirt openly, or in any other way overtly show emotions unbefitting an FW � Argue, embarass, fight, or in any other way challenge a Man in public or private � Travel alone, for to do so is to invite capture and probably a ko-lar Do � Behave in a gentle and caring manner at all times � Be obedient, do what needs to be done, and do it well � Cook, sew and serve Free Men if there are no slaves available to do so � Learn how to take care of your Brothers and Sisters, learn to change a bandage, or to soothe a heart, The more you can do, the prouder you will be, and the more you will have to offer your camp. Remember good FWs, like good slaves, make the Free Men look even better. � Help your sisters and Free Men in any way you can, teach new Sisters to be proper FWs, be a good role model for them. � Be careful how you treat slaves. While you do command a certain amount of respect because you are free, remember that you are not the equal of the Free Men in camp and do not expect the slaves to accord you the same type of respect they do for Free Men. And remember, any day you could find yourself a slave too, and will need to get along with those you once ordered around. |
