Rick Gilbert
Gonzo Photojournalist
Rick grew up in Kensington, the violent white-trash slum of Philadelphia.  What saved Rick from his milieu, was his fascination with media.  He was
the kid with the camera while his friends were committing crimes. He became
distanced from their activities by recording them. He showed me a film, once,
that he had made when he was 12 or 13. It showed his friends beating-up the
neighborhood victim kid. It's no wonder that his persona was that of a grizzled combat photographer, at the age of twenty-five. The last we heard, he was head of the A/V department at a Philadelphia Junior College. Another form of
combat, one assumes.
