Kaslarna was born in Dunstone Hold in the High Reaches. She was the eldest of her four siblings. While her two brothers learned the rudiments of holding from their father, Kaslarna and her two sisters Zaranda and Rakira learned everything a Holders Lady would need. Living in High Reaches, Kaslarna would often see dragons in the sky. From an early age she was fascinated and awed by them as they defended Pern. Then, as she grew older, this changed to respect and admiration. Whenever possible, she took her chores outside and watched the skies.
Kaslarna was happy living at Dunstone Hold, but when she reached 17, she felt that she was old enough to cope on her own, and followed her dream. She packed her possesions and joined a group of traders who were travelling to the Weyr. Arriving there, she asked for and recieved permission to stay as a resident. She settled in happily, making new friends and working hard.
Her sister Zaranda had often argued with their father and soon after Kaslarna left, the arguments came to a head. After a blazing row, Zaranda stormed out, disappearing. Kaslarna knew nothing about this until she recieved a letter from Zaranda detailing the row and where she now was. It eneded with Zaranda imploring Kaslarna not to tell her family where she was. Kaslarna respected her sisters wishes, but told their mother that Zaranda was safe and well.
In her next letterm Zaranda invited Kaslarna to visit whenever she wanted. It was on one of these visits to Paradise Island that Kaslarna stopped off at the Istan Herder Hall and came away with a canine, who she named Gigi.
Back at High Reaches Weyr, Kaslarna keenly felt the rift between Zaranda and the rest of the family. Deciding to do something about it, Kaslarna enlisted the help of one of the dragonriders she had made friends with. Arriving at Dunstone Hold, Kaslarna managed to persuade her father to accompany her to Paradise Island, There, she wandered the beaches while Zaranda and their father talked. It was while walking between sand dunes that Kaslarna came across a hatching firelizard clutch and managed to impress a blue who she named Pyxis. When she returned to Paradise Hold she found that Zaranda and her father, while still not totally reconcilled, had sorted most of their differences.
Returning to the weyr, Kaslarna carried on helping while learning to cope with a growing firelizard. She watched a Hatching and cheered her friends on, happy when they impressed. It was after this that she recieved a firelizard egg in return for helping one of the dragonriders, the weyrlingmaster R'sli. Kaslarna was stunned when it hatched and she impressed a beautiful gold who she named Emmy.
Kaslarna aslso managed to aquire another firelizard, who she named Hawk. Hawk was from Emmys first clutch, and hatched at the bottom of Kaslarna's cot one evening. Kaslarna wanted to go back to sleep and so had to feed the lizard to silence his creelings and so impressed him.
The next major event that happened to Kaslarna was that she became a nanny at the Weyr. One of the other residents told Kas that someone was needed in the Brat Cave to tidy up, so off Kaslarna went. Turning up, she discovered that there was no cleaning to do, but she volunteered to help with the children and then Head Nanny Tyara decided to keep her. And so Kaslarna got a new nannys knot.
It was only a few weeks later, that Kaslarna was lying on the beach, taking a break from nannying and chatting with Meral, another High Reaches resident. R'ley and bronze Tynabith and Yla and green Castaliath arrived, with Yla looking for her cousin. Next thing, Meral was being drooled on by Castaliath, and Kaslrana was being wrapped with a bronze tail. Both dragons persuaded their riders that they really wanted these two Reachians as toys, so Yla and R'ley offered the pair the chance to come and play with the eggies on the sands. Kaslarna and Meral both agreed, but weyrwoman Pyrene wasn't to keen to lose the newest nanny of the Reaches. But, R'ley prevailed and Kaslarna was swept off to Ista!
Kaslarna settled in well as a candidate, chatting to the other candies, and moaning about all the chores she was doing. And playing the occasional prank of course. Later during candiacy, when they had settled down from the mad prank playing of the first few sevendays, the candidates decided to hold a masked ball. It was during that when a clutch of firelizard eggs by the hearth decided it was time to rock and roll. Kaslarna hung about on the outskirts, but the last firelizard to hatch, a green, decided that Kaslarna was just what she was looking for. And so Kaslarna aquired her fourth firelizard, who she called Seine.
Having a realy bad case of the jitters with not knowing when the hatching was. But it was during a surprise party held for Ilara, that Kaslarna's jitters abruptly were satisfied. The weyr began to throb with the hum, the candidates bounced into their robes, and the weyrlingmasters led them out onto the sand. It proved to be fairly hairy, with Dhiammarath insisting that all the candidates take off their sandals first, but then the first egg hatched. Kaslarna stood, and watched. Kilbane impressed first and Kas cheered for him. But then she found herself being cheered as brown Xylyth made his wishes clear, he wanted Kas, or as she became, Kazra. The rest of the hatching passed in a daze for Kazra.
Now a weyrling, Kazra is adjusting to her new life, and caring for Xylyth. Her menagerie have accepted the dragon, and Xylyth seems to have accepted them. But Kazra has turned most of the responsibility for Gigi over to one of the more trustyworthy weyrbrats since Kazra herself doesn't have much time to excercise the canine now. Xylyth is growing fast, and Kazra is kept occupied most of the time.
