Farran joins the StarCraft!

Logfile from Harpers-Tale
StarCraft Office

The wood-panelled and carpeted confines of the StarCraft's main office convey an aura of calm, order, and peace. Still, there is constant motion in this room and the new Master has left her mark on it, in the form of scattered knicknacks, papers, charts hung askew on the walls, and empty klah mugs left abandoned on the desk.

On the perch are Saturnax, Chiana, RedStarr, and Fistandantilus.

You see Starcraft Apprentice Progress Board, StarCraft Sr. Apprentice Progress Board, StarCraft Journeyman Progress Board, Cheli, and Matias here.

Jorina is here.

Obvious exits:

StarCraft Main Hall     CraftMaster's Office

Farran

Standing at slightly over six feet, Farran presents an intimidating sight. His grey eyes are cold and the harsh angles in his face give him the apperance of a cold man. But when he smiles, his whole face is changed, with his eyes gaining a vivid spark of like and his face softening. His body is trim and he moves lightly and easily on his feet.

Farran is wearing a simple, unadorned white shirt that flows loosly over his torso, long sleeves reaching down to cling to his wrists. Black, practical trousers cover his bottom half, fitting snugly but not to tightly. Black boots cover his feet, with a well worn shine to them.

He is awake and looks alert.

You notice Farran looking at you.

Farran is 18 Turns and 17 days old.

Jorina

Locks the shade of russet fall to just past Riina's shoulders, curling slightly at the tips. Her grey-green eyes appear to hide beneath dark lashes, however short they may be. Once tan, the StarCrafter is now a pale five feet seven inches, her colouring the result of more and more days indoors, giving lessons or studying charts.

Turquoise linen is shaped into the form of a tightened bodice, material wrapping Jorina's bosom in the monocolored cloth. Several dusky square buttons are sewn tightly along modest back, buttoning the dress up to the collar. Miniscule stitches end sleeves at shoulder length with contrasting loops of white thread. Two triangular pockets decorate the top, geometric designs set equidistant from the band collared neckline. Embroidered upon the right-hand one in loops of metallic thread is the image of an eight pointed star, satin-stitched circular red background marking it the emblem of the StarCraft. A full skirt swishes out from a piping decorated waist, unwavering blue-green fabric curtailed at midcalf length. From the skirt's hem peek more heavily sewn, frost tinted stitches, identical to those finishing the sleeves, while similarly toned piping edges geometric pockets. A small pair of ankle boots made of soft wherhide decorate her feet, with laces the same cromcoal color as the boots.

Jorina wears the Silver and Red Double Cords and Loops, a Tassle added on, bound with Gold thread which designates her as the StarCraft Apprentice Master.

She is awake, but has been staring off into space for 2 minutes.

Jorina is 35 Turns and 2 months old.

You notice Jorina looking at you.

Jorina sits behind the desk, acting very much like a child as she bends possessively over a grouping of carved wood blocks. Apparently, her three toddlers are rubbing off on her. Poor apprentice master.

Farran stands slightly outside of the doorway, looking as though he is gathering his courage, before he steps forward slightly and raps his hand on the door. He waits for recognition before he moves again.

Jorina looks up warily, then glares around the room as if she expects someone else to greet the young man. When no one climbs out of the shadows to do so, the stressed mother shoves her blocks aside and adjust her posture to something that looks like a StarCraft Master should have. "Yes?" She asks shortly. "Can I help you? I'm Master Jorina. Apprentice master, that is."

Farran steps forward and bows in greeting. "Greeting Master Jorina. My name is Farran." He moves forward another pace. "I would like to join the StarCraft." There. No beating about the bush for this man. He waits now, face showing nothing.

Jorina nods to Farran, waving him to a seat in front of the desc. "Indeed. Could you tell me why you are interested in this fine craft?" She asks, now fussily putting the painted blocks into a sack on the floor- not that the young man would be able to see exactly what she's doing. Riina's nearly hiding behind the desk, looking 'round at him every few moments so he knows that she hasn't forgotten him.

Farran moves to take the indicated seat, sitting fairly straight with his hands in his lap. "I've always been interested in the stars." he replies. "I think it must run in the family. My mother was a StarCrafter as well, and she got me interested in the craft."

"She was?" Jorina asks brightly, popping up to look carefully at the teenager. "Who was she? I've been in the craft for over fifteen Turns now, you know. 'Course, always in this hall, but still. It's so interesting when our grown children decide to join, too. Not that mine are grown- they're only a Turn old, but still."

"Her name is Fessra." Farran says, a slight smile sweeping across his face as he mentions his mother. "She got all of us interested in the stars, but I'm the first to seek out the hall."

Jorina nods, grinning. "Hey, I've heard of her! That's so awesome." The master ducks behind the desk again, asking as she does so, "Eh, what exactly do you want to do with us, hmm? You're not going to be a babysitter for my children, I assume." Popping up again, she laughs. "They tend to make anyone closely associated with them act like children themselves."

Another rare smile crosses Farran's face. "I'll mention that I met you when I next write home." And then he turns serious again. "I would like to become an apprentice if that was possible."

Jorina chuckles again. "Of course! I meant: which area of apprenticeship-whatever it's called." Riina really knows her job. "Much to some of our appies' dismay, I have turned them into babysitters instead of letting them get on with charting or whatever it is they really want to do."

"I'd be interested in finding out more about constellations." Farran says after a moments consideration. "Though I wouldn't be adverse to babysitting. I've done it often enough at home."

Jorina gapes at Farran, neglecting to disappear. "Y-you haven't met Irik and Joris and Kerna yet." She finally declares. "Only myself, Seilyn, Kaly and their father really like them and I'm not sure about Keris..." Shaking her head, she reaches into a drawer for a knot. "Anyhow, welcome to the craft. I suppose that you can gather your things from home unless you brought them with you, in which case there'll be someone to show you to the boys' dorms."

OOC: Jorina has some OOC questions.

Saturnax *eeks at Farran! No you don't want to babysit them! They're monsters! *ducks*

OOC: Farran nods, then grins at the eeking firelizard

OOC: Jorina giggles. They are horribly annoying children. ;P Anyhow, about how long have you been MOOing?

OOC: Farran does some swift counting. "Two years come February."

OOC: Jorina nods. And you've read the Pern series, at least some of the books?

OOC: Farran nods. Definately :)

OOC: Jorina hmms. Any RL astronomy knowledge?

OOC: Farran says "Not particulary anything special. I can pick out a few constellations, name the planets, that sort of thing, but am keen to learn"

OOC: Jorina nods. Alright. *peeks at Saturnax* Anything I'm forgetting?

Saturnax *ums...I asume Farran you can handle the differences between IC/RL astronomy? And that you know the differences of IC/OOC?

OOC: Farran nods and is fairly happy that he can.

Farran has joined Starcraft.

You have new mail (2) from Jorina (#8818).

Type `help mail' for info on reading it.

Message 2 of 2:

Date:     Sat Jan 12 17:53:38 2002 CST

From:     Jorina (#8818)

To:       Farran (#22836)

Subject:  Welcome!

On behalf of the StarStaffers I'd like to welcome you!

Getting this mail means that you are now a member of the StarCrafters of Pern. Whoo! You should be happy, because this Craft is very interesting, both ICly and OOCly :)

Now, there's a few things you should know before you start RPing around here.

First of all, to talk on the [-StarCraft] channel, type 'sc <message>', just as when you pose only with 'sc' in front of it. And remember, channels are OOC, and please, try not to spam the channel too much. For a list of other StarCraft related channels, see `help star Channels`

Then you'd want to add some features which allow you to fully exploit our Craft resources: @addfeature #1861 and @addfeature #12000 - then you can type commands like 'cwho', 'cwho/t', 'rlist', 'clist', 'cinfo'. Also, do 'help #12000' to see all the rlist commands on that feature. And type 'notifyhelp' if you want to keep an eye out for classes on your alts.

By typing @lib you'll get a list of the current books in the StarCraft library, and those are to be used by everyone. Some are IC, some are OOC, some both, but it's clearly marked when a paragraph is OOC.

You'd also want to check our helpfiles by typing 'help Star Index' and then go from there. They contain almost everything you need to know, and will answer many of your questions.

Well this is about it for introduction. If you have any questions, /please/ ask any of the staffers, it's what we're here for! Do 'cwho' to see which staffers are online.

We hope you enjoy your time here! :)

  The StarStaff.
