Wall climbing is a sport that has a growing popularity in the Philippines. This type of sport requires discipline, toughness and brains to reach the top.

Diliman Preparatory School has a newly built sports facility for wall climbing. Last year December 13, the 1st DPS climbing competition was held to indorse the new facility.

The school is allowing the PE teachers to teach the students about the sport. The teachers were trained under the Sport Climbing Association of the Philippines to qualify them as good belayers.



The following are the Rules and regulations:

1. The climbing wall is available for use during posted hours only.
2. Climbers must check in with a climbing wall staff on duty before they climb.
3. Climbers must have their climbing pass displayed on their harness at all times in order to climb.
4. Climbers with their passes and climbing staff are the only people allowed on the safety deck at any time.
5. No food is allowed on the safety deck at any time.
6. No hazardous jewelry or other sharp objects are permitted during climbing, as per discretion of the climbing staff.
7. Proper climbing gear must be worn at all times.
8. Stand clear and be aware of climbers' fall and swing zones.
9. Bouldering height is limited to 12 ft.
10. No bouldering is allowed on the climbing routes while that route is in use.
11. No climbing is permitted without a spotter/belayer.
12. All climbers must provide a belayer, or be belayed by climbing wall staff.
13. Climbers must use the climbing wall's hardware. Software must be approved and inspected by climbing staff for approval for use.
14. Top-rope stations are used on a first-come first-serve basis.
15. Courtesy to others and use of appropriate language is expected.
16. Climbing above the top-rope anchors is prohibited.
17. Climbers must use climbing commands and safety protocols at all times.
18. Climbing wall participants may be checked for safety protocols at any time.
19. One written warning will be issued per participant for rules violations. A second infraction will result in the loss of privileges.
20. Report any problems to the climbing wall staff on duty immediately.
21. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult while climbing.
22. Belayers must be 18 years old or over and must complete a belaying competency course before belaying.
23. Violation of these policies is subject to disciplinary action or loss of privileges.
24. All climbers climb at their own risk and are responsible for themselves and their children at all times.
