The shooting death of a 15 year old township teenager at the hands of a alleged gang member last summer shattered the community, leaving residents stunned and saddened. Three township parents shook off their shock and formed, Teaneck Comes Together, an organization dedicated to providing townshipteens and parents the opportunities to discuss serious issues in an upbeat positive environment. One of the founders of "TCT" is Javalda Powell, Kasib's older sister.
The first event held by "TCT" was Teaneck Teen Explosion and Parent Workshop. It was held at the Richard Rhodda Community Center and attended by over 350 students and parents. The event featured games and music for the teena and group dicussions for parents. One of the events was ran by Kasib Powell.
Kasib put together organized 3-3 basketball games with the youth. This was fun for Kasib because it was a great cause and he got to see a lot of youth that look up to him and has followed his career. It was a full day of fun and inspiration!
