THE SECOND ANGEL
uh…yah…
a/n: I wuz in a hurry and real lazy this time…oops.
The angel, who had finally become bored of solitaire, glanced back at the mirror. “What the-” He leaped up from where he had been sitting. “Ryo? Why? You’re there? I have to tell the elders!” The angel raced out of his dark room, leaving the crystal mirror even more neglected than before.
Tesha felt herself drifting in the emptiness… There was nothing…. She knew she was unconscious and yet she could think. She could hear murmuring, like the sound of voices behind a closed door. You can hear the sound but not the words. She smiled when she recognized her partner’s voice. Marl was agitated about something, he was talking to someone whose voice she didn’t recognize. Marl was always worrying about something. Suddenly there was a sensation in the darkness, cold. So cold. There were cold hands on her forehead and stomach. Pain! Pain flared through her body and colors exploded in the emptiness.
A small warm hand clasped Tesha’s and white light filled her vision.
You
don’t have to be alone…
She sat up gasping and looked up at the worried face of Marl. Wondering if it was his hand she held, Tesha looked down. Her hands were empty, there was no one holding either of them. She blinked before realizing there was a young blond boy collapsed against her torso. She looked up at Marl again and the tableau shattered. Marl leaped into motion.
“Sorry, lemme get that kid off you.” Marl lifted the young boy off Tesha and placed him gently on the couch. Tesha tried to stand up but found she was more tired than she had ever been in her life. She fell back to the carpet and lay there. Marl turned back to her and kneeled at her side. “You okay?”
“Err…the pain is gone but I’m really tired.” Tesha could feel her eyelids drooping.
“I’ll carry you to your bed then.” Marl picked Tesha up and cradled her in his arms.
“M’kay…” Tesha murmured as she drifted off, curling against his chest. Marl carried her to the master bedroom and tucked her in. Not entirely reassured that she would be alright after such injuries, Marl pulled up a chair and sat to watch his partner sleep.
“Dammnit! Ryo’s in trouble, there are youkai in the human world! Aren’t you going to do anything?!” The angel yelled in frustration. The dark figures he was speaking to only regarded him coolly.
“Do not judge our motives child! Youkai in the human world do not affect us. Why would we care about any of this? Your friend was exiled from this world, we are no longer responsible for him. You have pledged your case sufficiently and we deem it unworthy of our attention. You are dismissed.” The angel stood, eyes wide in shock.
“Exiled…? Ryo…was…”
“Yes, he was exiled to the human world. Now leave us!” The angel stumbled from the room, hardly aware of his surroundings.
“Exiled…Ryo…” The angel sank to his knees after leaving the Chamber of Elders. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
Ryo awoke in a strange environment. It took him a few seconds to remember that he had been exiled and was now in the human world. Feeling refreshed after a long sleep, he hopped of the couch. Healing always took a lot out of him, but he had been very successful with the human and that was worth it. Before that he hadn’t known he could heal humans. Gracefully, he tiptoed to Aishin’s room and peered in. The youkai was still asleep. Entering the room, the blond boy silently pulled up a chair and sat in it. He observed the youkai from his position at the bedside. Aishin looked fine…perhaps he should check his condition anyway. Ryo moved a hand to touch the youkai’s forehead. His hand was stopped short in an iron grip as Aishin’s eyes snapped open.
“You’re hurting me.” The blond boy said calmly. Aishin dropped his wrist and glanced away.
“You again.” It wasn’t a question.
“Yes…we do seem to cross paths don’t we?” The boy smiled wanly.
“Hnn…” The youkai stared at the boy, his golden-green eyes piercing. The boy was unfazed, staring solemnly back with his pale blue eyes. It was the youkai who finally broke the staring contest. “Why?” Was all he said.
“I was exiled. I sensed that you were in trouble so I arranged for my arrival in the human world to be as close to your location as possible.
“You succeeded.” The youkai replied curtly. The boy blushed.
“I…I didn’t mean to be that precise…I’m sorry I fell on you.” He looked chagrined.
“Hnn..” Aishin wasn’t looking at him.
“So what are you going to do now?” The blond boy asked.
“Don’t know. Stay here I guess. For now.” The youkai replied.
“Aishin?” The boy hesitated.
“If it’s okay with them…would you mind it if I stayed here as well? I know nothing of the human world or its inhabitants…the only person I know here is you…I mean where would I go-” The blond boy was interrupted by Aishin.
“Stay then. Don’t care.” The youkai replied indifferently.
“Thank you.”
“Hnn.”
“Dammnit Ryo! Why didn’t you tell me you were being exiled?!” The angel was smashed his fist into a wall. He was once again in the room with the mirror. He wanted to get rid of me…that’s why he told me to watch those humans…so I would be distracted. He didn’t want me to follow him… The angel bowed his head, shoulders shaking. I thought I was his best friend…Suddenly he raised his face, a single tear streaking out of each eye and making its way down his cheeks. “You going to have to learn that friends don’t give up on friends that easily!” The angel smiled grimly and turned once more to the crystal mirror. His gloved hands hovered mere centimeters off the glowing surface. An answering blue light began to form around the angel’s hands. You can’t get rid of me that easily. The angel nd the mirror were both consumed suddenly with and explosion of blue light as he shouted: “TAKE ME TO RYO!”
There was a flash of blue light and something came tumbling out of the air to land with a thump on Aishin’s chest. The thing turned out to be the angel. He looked around dazedly, but upon seeing the blond boy and Aishin, he grinned broadly. “Oi Ryo! Youkai! I found ya!” His happiness was interrupted suddenly as he was dumped unceremoniously on the floor. “Owww….
“I am not a chair.” Aishin growled.
“Oh sorry.” The angel grinned, spiky orange and cream patched hair bobbing as he ducked his head in embarrassment.
“Yaoko…what are you doing here?” The blond boy, or rather Ryo, looked shocked at the sudden appearance of the angel.
“Oh you didn’t think I’d let you have all the fun did you?! Cavorting around down here with humans and youkai! Fat chance I’d be left out!” Yaoko had sat down cross-legged on the floor.
“I wasn’t trying to leave you out Yaoko.” Ryo’s blue eyes were solemn.
“Ah heh…just kidding you know…heh…hey is there anything to eat here?” The patchy-haired boy wouldn’t meet Ryo’s eyes as he grinned and looked around expectantly. Ryo sighed.
“I don’t know…I don’t think the humans are awake yet…”
“Well they shouldn’t sleep in so late!” Yaoko leapt up and stampeded out the door and down the hallway.
“He thinks I was trying to leave him behind.” Ryo studied the sheets.
“Weren’t you?” Aishin asked, cat-like eyes staring piercingly.
“No! Well not like he thinks I was…It was for his own good…the Elders…” Ryo tugged at the bedspread, fiddling incessantly. Aishin stilled the boy’s hand with his own.
“Stop that. Your friend doesn’t need looking after. He should be left to make his own decisions.”
“But he’s so impulsive sometimes…” Ryo looked up at Aishin.
“Are you his mother?”
“No…I…I guess I understand…I hope he’s not too mad.” Ryo looked down. The youkai had removed his hand from atop the blond boy’s.
“Hnn…”
