Prologue

 

Okay, let’s see, this is basically a ramble about stuff in the story. I’ll add to this as I remember stuff.  Start with the races.

 

Human: Humans in this story seem to acquire animal tails and ears every now and then.  This is a rough draft of a story and therefore the continuity is messed up.  Sometimes my ‘human’ characters will have ears and tails (maybe even hands and feet) sometimes they won’t. Deal with it. It seems in this story that humans can have that kind of equipment.  Yay.

 

Demon/Youkai: Youkai means demon in Japanese, I had just learned that from an anime (Saiyuki) when I was writing this story and it stuck so it is used interchangeably with “demon” throughout the chapters.  I also tend to switch between using capital Y and D and lower case y and d, I forget things, deal with it.  So onto the actual race.  This race is actually just a different kind of human being.  They aren’t really demons although some of the royalty in the Demon world believe they are.  They are basically just humans with bat-wings and yellow eyes. (Some Youkai don’t have yellow eyes, but most do. Or orange or red or some weird colour like that.) This race also sometimes has tails/ears and sometimes doesn’t.  Hooray for consistency.  Youkai can make their wings disappear whenever they want, pretty much. Maybe there will be some exceptions, I don’t know.  I’m pretty sure that Skai, Aishin’s brother, doesn’t have youkai wings, for one reason or another... As a race, youkai are stereotypically barbaric and bloodthirsty, but of course that is untrue for many of its members.  That’s just how they’re stereotyped.  There’s kind of a Montague and Capulet thing going on between demons and angels, they don’t mix.  The demons think the angels are vapid and prissy and the angels think the demons are barbaric savages.

 

Angel:  Just like youkai, these guys aren’t really angels. They are just humans with a strange spirit-energy halo bobbing above their heads and fluffy, feathery wings.  The members of this race are stereotypically arrogant and scholarly.  Angels wear light coloured robes most of the time and often have blue eyes and fair hair.  They can make their wings and haloes disappear just like youkai can.  Ears/tail rules or lack thereof apply here too.

 

Worlds…

 

Demon world: Like some really weird sophisticated version of the Medieval era. Not many knights and stuff I guess, not really.  Not kings either.  So maybe a little earlier.  But there is that whole thatched-roof, tunic-wearing, sword-toting feel to it.  It’s a little more sanitary than the real era… A lot of the Demon world is forested in temperate rain forest kind of stuff.  Okay so like the forests you find on most of the west coast.  There are also some of those big oak-type deciduous forests you can find in Europe/England/whatever.  Heh.  Dark, think dark.  Rainy, kinda cold…a bit foreboding.

 

Human world:  Basically our world.  In the future tho and a little different in how society is set up.  Very similar to today’s world though.

 

Spirit world:  Pretty much the opposite of the Demon world.  Light, shiny, happy-looking.  (Only on the surface, it’s as corrupt and nasty as hell in reality. =P)  Like ancient Greece or Rome.  Except slightly more sophisticated once again.  More sanitary.  Yeah.  All the flora and fauna from umm…over there.  *gestures to the general direction that Greece and Rome lie in.*  Or used to lie in, or whatever.

 

Stuff..

 

Spirit-energy/Spirit Energy: Basically a chi/ki type business.  An energy from within, comes in funny colours.  Present only in youkai and angels.  I think humans have suppressed theirs.  Too much technology and such.  Maybe it’s the magnetic fields. heh.  It’s just sort of an all purpose energy, different people have different talents with it. Throw it at people, wrap people in it, shield people, communicate.  Lots of fun stuff.
