On Saturday, August 3, 2003 Griffin and I had the wonderful opportunity to participate in a Breastfeeding Guinness World Record event held in Berkeley, California.

Although Griffin was only 3 weeks old at the time I couldn't pass up this exciting experience. Unfortunately, Sawyer was not feeling well that day and Christopher had to stay home with him, so Griffin and I headed out to make history on our own.

When we arrived at Martin Luther King, Jr. park across from the Berkeley Community Theater there were thousands of families with young children already there. With Griffin securely in his sling I registered for the event and enjoyed the warm weather. I was so pleased to meet up with my doula, Kellie, and her children and revel in the positive energy.

With the clock nearing 2 PM we all made our way into the auditorium and waited for the direction to begin nursing our babies. Griffin slept the whole time but was eager to eat when I gently awakened him for the Guinness official count.

We easily broke the record with 1,135 moms and babies breastfeeding all at the same time!

It was a great way to promote the many health benefits of breastfeeding and a really cool way to spend a Saturday afternoon with my new son.
