Milwaukee Road 261  Back on the Rails
Here are some shots of the Milwaukee Road Northern #261
Since I'm from Milwaukee and my Grandfather worked for the Milwaukee Road I have quite a fondness for the big Northern as it roams the rails.
Here the Milwaukee Road #261 rounds a tight curve as it pulls into the depot at Lincoln, NE. It is about to pull an Operation Lifesaver excursion from Lincoln, NE to Omaha, NE.
June 2000
Milwaukee Road #261 has just crossed the bridge over the Canal at Lemont, IL. Which is about 30 miles southwest of Chicago, IL.  The big Milwaukee northern had been pulling the BNSF Employee Appreciation Train.  August 1998
Looking down on Milwaukee Road #261 from the bridge at Hinsdale, IL. This bridge goes voer the BNSF triple track just west of Chicago.  #261 was pulling the BNSF Employee Appreciation Train.
August 1998
Shot in June 2002.  #261 is heading eastbound from Galesburg, IL back to Chicago, IL.  There was a stiff breeze blowing that day and it made the smoke curl around the locomotive.  I think it is a neat effect.  At first I didn't like it.

Here #261 is being reflected in the backwaters of Lake Pepin which is in the background. This was a Fall Color Excursion run on Oct 4, 2003.  The train was heading northbound just north of Wabasha, MN.
On Sunday Oct 5, 2003 again #261 led a Fall Color Excursion from Minneapolis, MN to La Crescent, MN.  Here #261 is in great form just south of Red Wing, MN.  K. Schmidt
