James Blinn, a seacaptain, was Peter's second son; born in Wethersfield, but moved to Boston where he made his living in the coastal trade between the colonies of Connecticut and Massachusetts Bay Colony. As with many ancestors so far removed, there seems to be conflicting data and theories out there concerning James. Mostly this deals with his death and that of his son, James. They both seem to have died within a couple years of each other, so it is difficult to place who is whom. At least there does not seem to be any argument with the names :) James at some point removed himself to the Boston area and married Margaret Dennison of Milton, MA. He must have been at least comfortable in life as he was well propertied when he died. James and his brother Daniel both at some point settled in Boston for a time. The Blinn family must have had some connections in Boston as several seemed to move back and forth between there and Connecticut, but that is just a guess. So far there is not so much information here about James himself, but I am still searching. He is my eighth direct paternal grandfather (ancestor 512). If you have any information about James, please contact me, Jef. |

Above is a map of Boston, the earliest extant, from 1722. It was reprinted in 1835. I photocopied it from an old book at the LDS Family Research Center in Salt Lake City. Unfortunately transferring it over on the net has reduced legibility, but it still shows a good overview of Boston during James' lifetime. The streets underlined in red are where James owned property at the time of his death. |
